Path of Exile 2 shares many features with its predecessor, but it also introduces some exciting new elements. Among these are charms, which function as special accessories with charges similar to flasks.
Curious about how charms operate? This guide will explain their functionality in Path of Exile, detailing how to locate and utilize them, as well as how to increase your charm slots. We’ll make sure to clarify the often confusing descriptions that come with these items.
What Are Charms?
Charms are small accessories that grant defensive abilities, such as resistance to fire or immunity to poison. These effects activate when you take damage from the corresponding attack or effect. For example, the Sapphire Charm gives a 25% boost to Cold Resistance after you receive Cold damage from an attack; this effect lasts for four seconds.
Like potions, charms have charges, which you need to monitor. If a charm is out of charges, it won’t activate. So, for the Sapphire Charm example, it won’t provide Cold Resistance if you get hit by Cold damage when it has no charges left. You can increase the charges by defeating monsters or refilling them at wells.
Charms can be upgraded in rarity. You can use an Orb of Transmutation on a charm to make it magical.
Beyond that, you can apply materials that add or modify the charm’s effects. However, the primary ability of the charm remains unchanged. For instance, we added a modifier to our Sapphire Charm that lets our mana recover by four when the charm is used.

Where To Equip Charms
Charms can be equipped depending on the belt you wear. If you are not wearing a belt, you won’t be able to use charms. Fortunately, belts can drop from defeated enemies, just like most gear.
You can also buy a belt from a vendor or try your luck with Finn by gambling for one. If you’re having trouble finding a belt, we recommend visiting Renly in the Clearfell Encampment and purchasing one. Once you equip the belt, at least one charm slot will become available. In your inventory, these are the three small boxes located below the belt slot.
The charm slots are displayed directly to the right of your potions, allowing for easy monitoring of each charm’s effects and remaining charges.
How To Acquire More Charms
So, how do you obtain charms? To start, they can drop from nearly anything in the game world. If you defeat monsters while progressing through the story, you’re likely to find a charm.
We suggest exploring each map thoroughly to spot any dropped charms. Since the total number of charms is limited in the game, make sure to keep each charm you find; any extras can be stored in your stash.
