The new Fast Recon Vehicle (FRV) in Helldivers 2 is a handy jeep designed to tackle the invasion by the Illuminate in the galaxy. This vehicle allows players to move swiftly across the map, making it easier to complete missions efficiently.
If you’re interested in locating a vehicle or want to get the hang of controlling the FRV in Helldivers 2, here’s a guide on where to find it and how to drive it effectively.
Overview of the Fast Recon Vehicle in Helldivers 2
The FRV, also referred to as the jeep by players, was introduced in the 01.002.001 update. It comfortably seats your team of four and is outfitted with a mounted machine gun to defend against the oncoming Illuminate forces.
Similar to the Exosuits when they were first launched, the FRV can currently only be found in the game and is not yet available as a Stratagem.
Locating the Fast Recon Vehicle in Helldivers 2
You can find the Fast Recon Vehicle on any planet featuring urban colonies, as introduced in the Omens of Tyranny update. Currently, this is limited to the planet Calypso, located in the Illuminate section of the galaxy. Future updates may include additional urban districts in planets invaded by Terminid and Automaton.
The FRV appears on the map as a small car icon. However, it’s worth noting that it can sometimes spawn without the icon, so keep your eyes peeled while exploring during Illuminate missions. The FRV usually appears within urban areas, so aim to drop close to city spots if you hope to find one early in your mission.
As of now, FRVs are not part of the Stratagems system. However, Arrowhead has mentioned that players will eventually unlock the ability to call in the jeep as a Stratagem after completing Major Orders. “Continue to follow the Major Orders from Super Earth High Command, and you’ll earn the keys to your own FRV,” the developers stated.

Tips for Using the FRV in Helldivers 2
- Teamwork is key. While you can grab the vehicle solo, teamwork enhances the experience. Pick up your teammates like a considerate taxi driver and transport everyone to the next objective.
- Utilize the mounted turret. The machine gun on the FRV is quite powerful. It can effectively handle the Voteless hordes and quickly eliminate airborne threats like Jetpack Overseers and Watchers. With a full 360-degree rotation, the gunner has excellent visibility for targeting threats.
- Lean out to shoot. Passengers can lean out of the windows to fire at enemies. While it can be tough to hit moving targets, using weapons like the Scorcher or Commando can help. Remember, shooting from the passenger seat can cause friendly fire, so aim carefully.
- Mounted gun has limited ammo. The turret comes with four ammo belts, and reloading takes time. Make sure your teammates cover you while you reload, and have a backup plan if the gunner runs low on ammo.
- Avoid off-road driving. The FRV isn’t designed for rough terrain. If you go off-road, keep your speed low to avoid flipping the vehicle, which can cause significant damage.
- Watch out for vehicle damage. The FRV can take damage, so keep an eye on your health. If it starts smoking, that’s a warning to exit quickly before it explodes. Remember, you can also lose tires, which will make control much harder.
