Tuna fishing isn’t a straightforward task in Dave The Diver. You must wait for an email from the Blue Hole Tourism Committee, inviting you to the Yacht Tuna Party. This email will prompt Bancho Sushi to prepare tuna dishes for the occasion, and you might find yourself feeling a bit overwhelmed.
But take a deep breath—this guide is here to help you learn how to catch tuna effectively and ensure you get the best quality meat, which involves keeping the fish alive. While it might seem challenging at first, it’s certainly manageable with the right equipment and knowledge about the depths you’ll be exploring.
Understanding Tuna
Once you receive the invitation from the Tourism Committee, you’ll go through a couple of tutorials in the game. These will introduce you to a new item in Cobra’s Premium Shop, the Steel Net Sensor Trap, along with instructions on how to use it.
You’ll also learn about the Salvage Drone, which helps you capture large fish and sea creatures. After you catch your first tuna, the game sets you free in the waters, but you won’t have any new traps or additional uses for the drone that day.
At this stage, you can buy Steel Net Traps whenever they’re available in Cobra’s shop. Keep in mind that you’ll start with just one use of the drone initially, which means your progress might be a bit slow. Nevertheless, you can still capture one live tuna, a larger fish, or a ray up to twice daily.
Where to Find Tuna
The Blue Hole is always changing, but certain locations remain consistent for finding larger fish like tuna. You’ll usually spot them near the surface of the water, at depths between 0 and 50 meters. Look for them in the middle to right parts of the Blue Hole. Dive in and swim towards the right to start your search.
Keep an ear out—you can often hear the fast-swimming tuna as you approach. These fish tend to swim in fast, straight lines and might even bump into you, causing injury if you’re in their path.
Methods for Catching Tuna
Using Steel Net Traps
As demonstrated in the tutorial, Steel Net Traps are effective for capturing one or two tuna at a time. Once purchased, you usually get two traps to use, allowing you to catch up to four tuna in a single dive, which is a great haul, especially once you’ve set up the Fish Farm.
However, do note that these traps can only be utilized for the dive you acquired them for, meaning if you buy them for a morning session, they won’t carry over to your next dive.
Killing Tuna
Sometimes, you might find yourself running out of traps and needing to rely on killing a tuna as it swims by to collect its meat. You can use any damaging weapon you have, but be prepared for the possibility of needing several shots to bring the fish down. Make sure to position yourself wisely to avoid damage from the tuna’s swift movements.
Alternatively, you can use bombs found in the Blue Hole or buy them from Cobra. Trigger Bomb Traps can be found in supply crates and cost ten gold each if you purchase them. Another option is the Sensor Bomb Trap, which will explode upon fish contact, damaging the tuna.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also try slashing or hitting the tuna with your melee weapon, but do so with caution, as they can quickly retaliate.
Tranquilizing Techniques
If you can’t locate Steel Net Traps or have exhausted your supply, tranquilizing weapons can help you capture tuna without causing harm to yourself or the fish. There are various tranquilizing options available, including:
- Tranquilizing Guns: Acquired randomly during dives or upgraded in Duff’s Weapon Shop.
- Hush Darts: Found in weapon cases or crafted at Duff’s shop.
- Tranquilizing Harpoons: Available only by finding them in weapon crates.
Using tranquilizing guns is typically the easiest way to put tuna to sleep since you only need to hit them once. Once they’re down, you can call the Salvage Drone to recover them without the need for traps.
Steel Net Gun
Upgrading to a Steel Net Gun is a great option if you want to catch multiple fish at once. This powerful tool allows you to shoot steel nets directly at the fish, capturing up to seven at a time. To obtain this upgrade, you’ll need to advance beyond the basic net gun and gather specific materials along with some gold.
Fish Farm
After you’ve unlocked your Fish Farm, you can begin to find fish roe, which allows you to hatch fish that can be sold or used as ingredients in your restaurant. This helps ensure that every fish—including tuna—is of the highest quality. Look for tuna in the section marked “~50m,” where all tuna varieties are housed.
With this guide, you’re set to tackle tuna fishing in Dave The Diver with confidence! Happy diving!
