Wingdrake Hide is quite essential in Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s a key ingredient for crafting various items, from Insect Glaives to Talismans, making it a valuable resource in the game. Given its significance, you may find yourself gathering this material more frequently than others.
Although Wingdrake Hide is relatively easy to obtain, it only drops from specific monsters in designated areas. There’s also a higher-quality version that can lead to some confusion regarding how to collect it. If you’re having trouble finding Wingdrake Hide, this guide will help you navigate the process.
How To Acquire Wingdrake Hide
You might encounter Wingdrake Hide early in Monster Hunter Wilds, as the monsters you need to hunt appear in the game’s initial stages.
The two creatures that drop this material are Baunos and Harpios. These are classified as small monsters, making them easier to hunt solo without a party.
You can generally spot Baunos flying around Areas 16 and 17 of the Plains region. On the other hand, Harpios can be found in the Forest or the Oilwell Basin. In the Forest, Harpios don’t have a fixed spot, while they are more commonly seen in Areas 8 and 10 of the Oilwell Basin, unlocked in Chapter 2.
Neither monster is associated with optional quests at Alma’s Quest Counter, so you will need to hunt for them in their natural habitats.
When you find these monsters in the wild, they will be airborne. To bring them down, target one, and a prompt will appear allowing you to pull it down using your slinger. Once it’s grounded, attack it a few times to defeat it and then collect the Wingdrake Hide.
How To Obtain Wingdrake Hide+
The standard version of Wingdrake Hide is available only in Low Rank, but you can find a higher-tier variant, known as Wingdrake Hide+, in High Rank.
To access the high-rank version, you must have completed Monster Hunter Wilds and reached the end-game content.
Just like before, you will need to hunt either Baunos or Harpios in the same areas: Forest, Basin, or Plains. Defeating these creatures in High Rank will yield the higher-quality hide.
Grounding them is done the same way as in Low Rank. Close the distance to pull the monster down and then attack it.
If you’re in High Rank but still need the basic version of Wingdrake Hide, you can obtain it by going to Alma’s Quest Counter and selecting a monster from the Optional Quest tab that has a rating of 3 Stars or lower.
Just ensure that you pick a monster that can be found in the previously mentioned areas.
For instance, if you select the one-star Doshaguma, your quest will lead you to the Forest, where you can hunt a Harpios.
You don’t have to defeat the main monster you’re hunting. After collecting enough Wingdrake Hide, you can cancel the quest by speaking to Alma and quickly return to camp. The hide will be available in the Transfer Items menu at Base Camp.
Since Wingdrake Hide and Wingdrake Hide+ are used for crafting different items, it’s a good idea to double-check what you’re making. Look for a plus sign on the label to avoid any mishaps in your crafting process.
