Your character in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad boasts a range of stats, skills, and traits that evolve as you journey through the world. By enhancing combat abilities and gaining unique passive bonuses, you can see regular improvements to your character as you complete various quests. However, with so many attributes to manage, it can be challenging to grasp all the available growth opportunities.
The skills and traits available to you are influenced by the class you select in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. For instance, if you choose the Sellsword class, you’ll gain access to the Earth Strike skill, which allows you to perform a disruptive attack that consumes Rage. While each class has its own unique skills and favored stats, it’s important to note that the upgrade mechanics are consistent across all classes, simplifying the process of enhancing any character you create.
How to Upgrade Skills
Accumulate Points for Various Abilities
Skills are special abilities tied to your character’s class, often linked to powerful attacks or buffs that you activate during gameplay. Each skill you equip requires Rage to utilize and has a cooldown period before it can be used again. You can enhance your skills by reducing cooldowns, boosting the damage they deal, or extending the duration of their beneficial effects in battles.
Rage is a resource displayed below your health bar on the screen. You can build your Rage by successfully hitting enemies, with combos providing the most significant boost.
Your character can elevate their skills by gathering Skill Points throughout their adventure, which fall into two categories:
- Active Skills
- Basic Skills
As you embark on your journey in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad and explore Westeros, you earn Skill Points by completing quests or leveling up. Finishing missions typically rewards you with Skill Points from either category, enabling you to enhance your character’s combat repertoire. Look for notifications in the “Skills” section of your “Advancement” menu to see when you have Skill Points available for upgrades.
Active Skill Points focus on improving your character’s Active Skills—class-specific special moves that you execute by spending Rage. Be mindful of the limit on how many Active Skills you can have equipped; selecting upgrades for these abilities is a crucial part of your character’s development.
Conversely, Basic Skills encompass your standard combat moves, like attack combos, evasive maneuvers, and sprint attacks. Basic Skill Points also allow for the enhancement of these abilities, increasing the damage of the attack types you frequently use. Some Skills from both categories will only improve in damage as they are leveled up, while others may offer different enhancements depending on your upgrade choices.
How to Upgrade Traits
Activate Nodes to Unlock New Abilities & Boost Stats
Another method for advancing your character in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad involves upgrading Traits, which are accessible through the “Advancement” menu. Traits provide passive bonuses that can enhance stats or unlock new abilities.
For example, one Trait upgrade gives you the capability to Parry attacks from enemies.
Just like Skills, you can upgrade Traits by collecting unique Points that activate nodes on Trait Trees. There are three distinct Trait Trees, including:
- Attack Trait Tree
- Defense Trait Tree
- Support Trait Tree
Each Tree features a connected network of nodes that can be activated by spending Trait Points acquired through quest completions and story progression. Engaging in side quests, defeating Dangerous Beasts, upgrading your Estate, and leveling up all reward you with Trait Points, offering a variety of ways to improve your character quickly.
As you explore new regions, look for markers on your world map indicating side quests, Dangerous Beast encounters, and events that yield Skill or Trait points. A popular way to earn Trait Points is by solving Mural Puzzles found at Historic Sites throughout Westeros.
By using Trait Points to activate nodes in one of the Trait Trees, you enhance specific areas of your character’s Attack, Defense, or Support capabilities. For instance, activating a node in the Support tree could increase your maximum Health, while a node in the Attack tree would amplify the damage dealt by your attacks. Bear in mind that certain nodes in each Trait Tree may be locked until other nodes are activated or until you progress further in the game.
Some nodes can be upgraded multiple times. Larger nodes may require more than one Trait Point to improve, but you should generally find options for spending Points on nodes that allow multiple activations. Depending on their passive bonuses, nodes may be upgradable up to 10 times, or five times, and so forth.
No matter which route you take to upgrade your character, you can refund Skill and Trait points at any time. This lets you reallocate your character enhancements whenever you wish, with no penalties or resource costs involved, thus allowing for experimentation with various builds and features.
Other Ways to Upgrade Your Character’s Stats
Equip Different Armor and Discover Better Gear
Like any immersive RPG, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad provides additional options for enhancing your character beyond improving Skills and Traits. One of the simplest methods to boost your character’s stats is by equipping superior armor that you discover or craft during your adventures.
Your stats are categorized into six primary areas:
- Attack Power
- Defense
- HP
- Rage
- Critical Strike Rate
- Critical Damage
The weapon you use is crucial for determining the strength of your attack stats, so searching for higher-quality axes, swords, or knives can significantly enhance your character’s combat effectiveness. Additionally, some jewelry and artifacts you equip may influence your stats, improving specific categories. Artifacts are unique items that bestow special abilities independent of your chosen Skills. You have the ability to restore, refine, and reset your Artifacts using various resources, which enhances their effects that elevate your character’s capabilities.
Combining improved equipment, upgraded Trait Trees, and skill enhancements is essential to your character’s development as you traverse the Seven Kingdoms. While each upgrade may seem minor on its own, collectively they create a formidable character poised to influence the fate of Westeros in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad.
