Xaldin is a recognizable yet unique secondary boss encountered in The First Berserker: Khazan. He takes inspiration from the Viper’s initial form, which players will be familiar with at this point in the game. You’ll find Xaldin during the “Human Xilence” mission, where Khazan is on a mission to eliminate the remaining Dragonkin soldiers in the area. Though Xaldin shares a design with Viper’s first form, his attack patterns differentiate him from other secondary bosses.
After defeating Maluca in First Berserker: Khazan, you can head directly to the Nadin Quarry to start the “Human Xilence” mission. As you navigate through the quarry, you will arrive at the Main Cavern Stairway, where you’ll confront the boss, Xaldin. However, be aware that a challenging elite enemy is positioned just outside the arena, so be prepared to either engage him or bypass him quickly. If you manage to defeat him, you’ll earn items from the Fallen Lord Set, which is ideal for a spear-focused build for Khazan as you take on the various mid-game bosses.
How To Defeat Xaldin In First Berserker: Khazan
Be Aware of Xaldin’s Boomerang Spear Attack
Xaldin is a secondary boss whose attacks are typically reminiscent of the original boss he is based on. However, his unique move set stands apart from Viper’s initial battle in First Berserker. While he has some familiar swinging and slashing attacks, he is more defensive and emphasizes close-quarters combat. Notably, he uses a two-hit spinning and slashing combo alongside a distinctive four-hit slash combo, both of which can be avoided or countered using the Brink Guard technique.
The key move to watch out for is Xaldin’s Spear Boomerang attack, which can significantly deplete your stamina or health. When he throws the spear, it will strike you as it returns as well. Your safest option is to dodge away as he throws it, but you can also use Brink Guard to deflect it and disrupt the attack upon its return. You will often find opportunities for a Reflection and counter-attacks during his stabbing maneuvers, so keep a close eye on your timing as he can hit you hard if you’re not careful.
You can easily perform a Reflection on Xaldin when you see him spinning his spear overhead, as this usually leads to a slow downward slash.
Taking down Xaldin isn’t overly difficult—you mainly need to be vigilant about his stabbing attack that can launch you into the air and damage you with successive hits. Thankfully, he doesn’t have a second phase, unlike the Viper, whose two-phase fight can be excessively challenging. However, be prepared to face a new reskinned version of the Viper’s second form, Xilence, in the next mission.
Rewards For Defeating Xaldin
The Fallen Lord Set Is Ideal For Spear Builds
Upon defeating Xaldin, you will receive two random items from the Fallen Lord Set, which is designed for spear users and includes the Fallen Lord’s Spear. This set enhances damage for abilities like Full Moon and Spiral Thrust, significantly improving Khazan’s afterimage and Moonlight skills. Xaldin will also drop Spirit Ore, an additional random weapon or accessory, and two Transmutation Mists.
In summary, Xaldin offers a fairly straightforward challenge with a few tricky maneuvers, but a well-timed Reflection or counter-attack should suffice. Make sure to capitalize on his overhead spinning move to set up a Brink Guard or Reflection, and unleash fierce attacks after you’ve drained his stamina. The rewards from the Fallen Lord Set are excellent for farming spear gear as you prepare for upcoming boss fights in The First Berserker: Khazan.
