As of now, Assassin’s Creed Shadows does not offer any multiplayer features at its launch. While there are some online aspects related to limited-time events and monetization, players should not expect a traditional multiplayer mode at this time. This news might disappoint fans who remember the competitive stealth matchmaking that was once a key element of the series. However, there are hints that this could change soon, particularly with mentions of a separate project known as “Invictus.”
Is there multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
Currently, you cannot play multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. There are no options for co-op or competitive matchmaking, and there have been no official updates suggesting that this will change soon. However, there are two points worth noting:
- Project Invictus: In a discussion with VGC, Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté revealed that a standalone multiplayer game, currently referred to as Invictus, is in the works. This game will not be part of Shadows but is expected to be accessible via the Animus Hub platform, which also serves as a gateway to Shadows.
- Project League: Insider Gaming has reported that Shadows may receive a co-op feature in a post-launch update, reminiscent of the cooperative gameplay seen in Assassin’s Creed Unity from 2014. However, this information is less certain and is included here just to provide a complete picture.
For now, the closest experience to multiplayer in the game consists of online features like the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Projects—essentially mini battle passes for players to progress through—and an in-game store with rotating special items and currencies. Until further updates are released, the experience is fundamentally a single-player endeavor.
