Completing the Sanctuary of the Guardians in Indiana Jones
Finishing the fieldwork in the Sanctuary of the Guardians can be a challenge, especially since this adventure beneath the Great Sphinx is filled with various puzzles. To enter the sanctuary, you’ll first need to grab a gold medallion from a Nazi-controlled area. Once inside, you’ll encounter a gold mask puzzle, followed by a mirror statue puzzle to obtain a stele for Nawal. While it may not be the legendary Idol of Ra, this find is still crucial to your quest, so here’s how to navigate through the Sanctuary of the Guardians in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Walkthrough for the Sanctuary of the Guardians
Start your adventure by talking to Gina, who is monitoring Nazi radio frequencies from Nawal’s tent. She’ll provide you with useful information regarding the Sphinx dig site, where the sanctuary is located. Use the waypoint on your map to reach the Sphinx, then locate the tunnel on its south side. Watch out for Nazis in the area; stealth is key unless you already have the Indiana Jones Wehrmacht disguise.
Once you enter the sanctuary, you’ll find Gina and the Digsite Outfit disguise. However, you’ll soon realize that you need a gold medallion to pass through a stone door. Your first objective is to find that medallion. For a smoother experience later, consider picking up a lighter from the Gizeh Village merchant before heading back to the sanctuary door.
Finding the Gold Medallion
To acquire the gold medallion needed for entry, you must take it from a tent in the Nazi Recreational Area, which is located west-northwest of the Great Sphinx. Make sure to wear the Digsite Outfit to avoid detection, although you’ll still need to be cautious of the Captains on patrol.
Head to the larger tent on the east side of the area, where you’ll notice a group of Nazis engaged in a card game. One of the officers will request a bottle, so move around to the other side of the tent to grab a bottle sitting next to some shot glasses on a desk.
You’ll see the gold medallion right next to the bottle. It’s advisable to give the bottle to the officer first to prevent them from becoming hostile. After delivering the bottle, quickly grab the medallion and exit the recreational area. With the medallion in hand, return to the Sphinx and use it to access the Sanctuary of the Guardians.
Solving the Gold Mask Puzzle
Upon entering, you’ll navigate some traps and use your lighter. Eventually, you’ll face a puzzle where you must free a gold mask from a stone pedestal. This involves repositioning mirrors to reflect light beams until the lock around the mask is deactivated. Here’s how to do it:
- Position the mirror on the far side of the room to aim at the mirror next to the collapsed pillar (the target is actually to your left when you enter the room).
- Then, direct the second mirror on the far end towards the mirror on your right.
Next, head to the mirror behind the collapsed column near the entrance and shine it at the plate you can see between the steps. Lastly, repeat the process with the other mirror near the entrance to shine it at the second plate between the steps.
With the gold mask retrieved, Gina will play around with it, and you can take a snapshot of her. After a cutscene, you’ll navigate through more challenges, avoiding scorpions, until you reach the next puzzle involving the mirror statue.
Completing the Mirror Statue Puzzle
This puzzle is relatively straightforward and similar to the previous one. Here’s what to do:
- Start by shining the central mirror onto the plate above the door on the left. This opens the door but reveals a mirror holder without a mirror.
- Now, shine the central mirror onto the plate above the right door. The door won’t open completely, so you’ll need to assist Gina in passing a mirror through the door crack by giving her a boost.
Shine the central mirror back towards the left door. Then, place the loose mirror that Gina acquired onto the holder through the door to reflect light onto the mirror statue.
As you return to the main room, Gina will suggest another mirror she has found. Since she doesn’t have a place to put it, she’ll hold it for you. Adjust the central mirror to direct light onto the mirror she’s holding, completing this final puzzle.
After navigating more traps and avoiding scorpions, you’ll finally discover the Protector Stele treasure and the exit. You can return to Nawal to hand over the stele for the Idol of Ra quest. If you’ve already given her the four items she needed, pass them to the delivery boy instead for the "Belongs in a Museum" side quest. Completing the Sanctuary of the Guardians grants you a reward of 400 Adventure Points.
