A sorcery wielded by the followers of death, Explosive Ghostflame creates a formidable blast accompanied by persistent flames that evoke death in Elden Ring. Historically, this sorcery was utilized to slay death itself, long before the Elden Tree’s orders came into power.
This guide will walk you through the steps to acquire the Explosive Ghostflame sorcery and build an impressive build around it.
Where to Find Explosive Ghostflame
You can obtain the Explosive Ghostflame sorcery by defeating a Death Rite Bird located in the heart of the Consecrated Snowfield.
Accessing the Consecrated Snowfield isn’t straightforward. Follow these steps to reach this late-game area:
- Collect the right half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion from the Village of Albinaurics in southern Liurnia. Speak with the old man Albus in the village, and he will provide you with this medallion piece.
- Progress through the game until you’ve completed Leyndell, the Royal Capital.
- Navigate to the Mountaintop of Giants via the Forbidden Lands and head towards Castle Sol, found in the northernmost section of this snowy region.
- Defeat Commander O’Neil to obtain the left half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion.
- Return to the Grand Lift of Rold and activate the secret medallion by pressing the D-pad left or right.
Completing these actions will lead you to the Consecrated Snowfield. Travel to the frozen lake situated in the center to encounter the Death Rite Bird.
Death Rite Birds are challenging mini-bosses that excel in quick, aggressive attacks. Avoid blocking their physical or magical strikes, as they can easily stun-lock you.
Take your time and focus on dodging their attacks. Only strike the Death Rite Bird when an opportunity presents itself. After defeating the Death Rite Bird, you will receive the Explosive Ghostflame Sorcery as a drop.
Explosive Ghostflame Sorcery: Stats and Requirements
To cast the Explosive Ghostflame, you’ll need 42 Intelligence and 30 Faith, which are notably high for sorcery in this game. You’ll also require 29 FP and 45 Stamina, in addition to one spell slot.
As with all sorceries, a Staff is necessary for casting. Since the Explosive Ghostflame is classified under Death Sorceries, using the Prince of Death’s Staff will enhance its power.
This spell allows the caster to slam their staff into the ground, triggering a massive explosion. This explosion inflicts 138 magic damage, and the flames cause 38 damage per tick. Additionally, Explosive Ghostflame builds up Frost on enemies and can knock down smaller foes.
