Making its return in Monster Hunter Wilds as one of the game’s ultimate hunts, Gore Magala is a swift and fierce creature that can present considerable difficulties, particularly for newcomers. First introduced as the key monster in Monster Hunter 4, Gore Magala has become a beloved figure among seasoned fans and has reappeared in titles like Monster Hunter Generations, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, and now in Wilds.
A crucial aspect to remember while taking on Gore Magala in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Frenzy Virus, a status ailment triggered by several of its attacks. When hunters are affected by the Frenzy virus, a small purple bar appears in the top right corner of the screen, indicating a countdown. If players deal enough damage before the bar fills, the status is removed, granting an increase in Affinity. Failing to manage this, however, results in the affected hunter receiving enhanced damage from attacks and a gradual reduction in health. Thus, inflicting effective damage becomes vital.
All Weaknesses of Gore Magala in Monster Hunter Wilds
Weak Points and Elemental Vulnerabilities of Gore Magala
Luckily, Gore Magala has clear vulnerabilities for players to take advantage of. As is typical, its head serves as the most vulnerable target for various damage types, while its forelegs and tail are also viable spots for raw weapons. For weapons that depend on elemental damage, such as Dual Blades, the head remains a key target, but the monster’s expansive wing arms are particularly susceptible to elemental attacks. Elementally speaking, Gore Magala is primarily weak to Fire, and also has vulnerabilities to Dragon and, to a lesser extent, Thunder.
For blunt and ranged weaponry, options are somewhat limited; targeting the head will significantly outshine strikes to other areas, unless there’s a wound to target. Gore Magala can be affected by any status condition, although it doesn’t show specific weakness to any of them. Regardless of various damage types, it’s essential to pay attention to when Gore Magala enters an enraged state, extending two horn-like antennas from its head. These antennas are the weakest parts of its body and should be your main focus whenever they’re exposed.
Importantly, targeting the antennas is not only optimal for damage output. Striking them enough can knock Gore Magala out of its threatening enraged mode, and breaking them yields materials that are otherwise quite hard to come by. As for weapon selection, while I generally favor the Greatsword, I find myself gravitating toward faster and more agile weapons when hunting Gore Magala, such as the Dual Blades, Sword & Shield, Insect Glaive, or Bow. With enough skill, any weapon can excel, but these options help me keep up with Gore’s speed and aggression.
While Gore Magala is typically weakest to Fire in terms of elemental damage, its antennas are more vulnerable to Dragon damage. Therefore, players who can consistently land hits on the head while it is enraged should consider using a Dragon-element weapon for maximum effectiveness.
No matter what weapon you choose, Gore Magala is most susceptible when enraged; aside from the exposed antennas, its tail and wing arms will also become easier targets and generally safer than the antennas. When not enraged, its large wings (which do not have any specific weakness to damage types) can often absorb hits that are not aimed directly at its face, making it challenging to attack areas like the tail or forelimbs.
