To enhance your combat abilities in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, a great starting point is mastering your counters. By effectively countering your opponent’s hits, you’ll avoid getting trapped in their attack sequences and create opportunities to strike back.
There are various counters and evasive moves you can try during battles, including the Wild Sense. However, the most valuable counter you pick up early in the game is the Revenge Counter. This counter can only be triggered after you’ve taken a hit, so precise timing is critical. Once you nail the timing, it will halt your adversary in their tracks, pushing them back and allowing you to retaliate with your own attack.
Maximizing the Revenge Counter
Get Hit First, Then Strike Back
To execute a Revenge Counter, you must first allow your opponent to land a hit on you. Then, immediately press R3 right after their attack connects. This requires perfect timing—visit Battle Training with Piccolo to fine-tune this essential counter until you get it just right.
You can also use a Revenge Counter against mid and long-range attacks, not just close ones. If an energy blast hits you, press R3 to initiate your Revenge Counter, which will send you charging toward your opponent. Keep in mind that this move costs two skill points, so you’ll need to make sure your skill gauge is charged before using it.
After successfully landing a Revenge Counter, your opponent will be vulnerable, so follow up with a combo sequence. However, stay alert for potential interruptions from your opponent, especially if they have skill points saved up.
Interrupting a Revenge Counter
Countering Your Opponent’s Counter
If your opponent uses a Revenge Counter against you, there’s a chance to interrupt it, as demonstrated in Pippin89’s video. When your attack gets countered, quickly press your perception button (O on PlayStation or B on Xbox) to interrupt the Revenge Counter. Doing this costs two skill points and will knock your opponent back. Afterward, you can either take a moment to build up ki or press the attack with a well-timed Z-Burst Dash.
Remember, just as you can counter an opponent’s Revenge Counter, they are also capable of countering yours if they have enough skill points, so keep that in mind when using this technique.
After you’ve practiced the Revenge Counter enough, it’s wise to refresh your skills with other defensive maneuvers, like deflecting ki blasts and executing afterimage strikes, to become the ultimate fighter in Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.
