While undertaking Taash’s journey in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, players can embark on the side quest "Warden Grey’s Final Repose." This quest sends Rook and the team on an exploration of the life and legacy of the first Qunari Grey Warden. Completing this quest not only boosts your reputation with the Grey Wardens but also rewards you with additional experience points (XP). However, it’s important to note that you can only complete this quest after progressing significantly through Taash’s personal storyline. As a result, you won’t be able to finish it immediately after it becomes available.
Taash and their mother are among many Qunari who escaped the Qun when the Antaam began their invasion of nearby regions. They grew up in Rivain, surrounded by the Lords of Fortune, which had a profound impact on their lives and led to a complex relationship with their identity as Qunari and women. Taash’s personal quest involves Rook supporting them in navigating the complexities of gender nonconformity while also battling dragons in DA: The Veilguard, even though this isn’t the primary focus of "Warden Grey’s Final Repose."
How to Start Warden Grey’s Final Repose
Locate the Letter Near the Clifftops Beacon
This side quest doesn’t originate from any of the NPCs in Veilguard; instead, you’ll discover it as you explore the Rivain Coast. After finishing "The Dragon Slayer," which is the quest where you recruit Taash following Minrathous and Treviso, you can wander freely around the Rivain Coast. To kick off the quest, look for the first letter. Start by heading southwest of the Clifftops Beacon into the dilapidated buildings nearby.
The first letter can be found near one of the two brazier puzzles in the Rivain Coast region.
In the ruins, you’ll discover some remnants of a Grey Warden leaning against a wall beneath a colorful mural of a griffon attacking someone. Upon examining this, you’ll learn about Warden Grey, the first Qunari Warden in Thedas’ history. Unsurprisingly, Taash is fascinated because Qunari have a unique heritage in Thedas, and they will request that you seek out more documentation about this historical figure.
The second letter is located in one of the small towers in the southwest segment of the map. Navigate to the designated area, lower the ladder from the upper ruins on the left side, then climb the ladder and attack the Gaatlock barrel to open the path leading to the second letter.
After collecting the second letter, you’ll need to head to the Sharksmouth Caves, but these won’t be accessible until you’ve nearly completed Taash’s personal quest. Unfortunately, this means you’ll have to revisit the quest later. Once you’ve accomplished "Lair of the Dragon King," return to the Rivain Coast to conclude this quest.
How to Access Sharksmouth Caves
Familiarize Yourself with Taash and Complete Some Quests
After finishing "Lair of the Dragon King" with Taash, go back to the Rivain Coast to gain access to the northeastern area of the region. Travel north from the Castle Bailey Beacon on the map to discover an entirely new section. Proceed to the lava cave, navigating carefully—or destructively—through the Darkspawn to locate the third and final note.
From the Cave Floor Beacon, take the stairs to the left of the ruins and navigate past the numerous Darkspawn, continuing up the path until you can jump down onto the wooden platforms extending to the left. Follow this wooden path into the next cave, climb the ladder, and traverse the room until you reach a large stone bridge adorned with two statues. Here is where you’ll find the letter you need, and you can continue to battle the Fury of Sharksmouth.
How to Defeat the Fury of Sharksmouth
It’s One Big Rage Demon in One Small Room
Fortunately, the Fury of Sharksmouth is not a dragon like many of Taash’s other nemeses; instead, it’s a Rage Demon. It’s vulnerable to Ice, so be sure to bring your Cold abilities along with Neve for support. By this point, you’ve likely faced similar foes, so while this battle is not dissimilar from what you’ve encountered before, here are some of the Fury’s abilities to keep an eye out for.
Attack | Tip |
---|---|
Flame Charge | The Fury rushes at you engulfed in flames, leaving a fiery trail. Avoid dodging into it while evading the main attack. Save your ability attacks for when the Fury is stationary to ensure they hit. |
Explosion | Marked by a large red circle around it, the Fury unleashes a blast of fire. Keep your distance to avoid this attack. |
Leaping Slam | Indicated by a circle on the ground, the Fury leaps up before slamming down, causing damage in the area. |
Flamethrower | Like dragons, the Fury has a breath attack that covers almost the entire arena. Dodge behind it or block to absorb a hit. |
Fire Wave | Avoid a massive wave of fire by dodging towards it and, while the Fury is distracted, counter with some free damage. |
Barrage | The Fury will back up and unleash waves of fireballs, one after another. Keep moving to evade this, as they’re too close together to create space between them for effective damage. |
Be aware that the Fury of Sharksmouth can summon lesser demons during battle, which can be quite irritating. Utilize any burst damage you have on hand to eliminate them swiftly, allowing you to center your attention on the boss. While this quest may not be the most thrilling in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it provides intriguing insights into the legacy of the first Qunari Grey Warden, in addition to rewards in the form of Grey Warden and Lords of Fortune power.
