Starting the Midnight Whispers, Restless Shadows Quest
To kick off this quest, you first need to finish the In The Lonely Song quest. After that, venture into the courtyard of the queen’s castle ruins under the night sky. There, you’ll find Strange and his cat waiting to present you with a challenge.
If you’re struggling to find him, check your map and look for a golden sparkle indicating a spot where you can interact!
Speak with Strange to embark on your quest, where he’ll ask you to uncover his true form from the shadows. In return, he’ll share the secrets of the queen with you.
Locating the Real Strange
Upon accepting the quest, Strange presents you with a riddle to help identify the real version of him among the shadow duplicates. He clues you in that animals can see through the illusion, so focus on Strange’s cat instead of him.
With numerous Strange replicas scattered throughout the courtyard and castle ruins, finding him can be tricky. Move towards the warp spire located near a minigame and cliffside, then navigate through the break in the castle wall where you discovered the ancient sword.
Utilize the debris to climb to the roof, ascend the stairs, and jump onto the leaf to reach the next level. Carefully make your way to the wooden doors on the balcony next to Strange. You’ll recognize him because his loyal cat will be right beside him.
If you can’t find him, look for the name label saying Peculiar Cat next to Strange.
Engage with Strange to fulfill his request and unlock the cavern next to him. Although the quest comes to a close, there’s still more to explore.
Exploring the Palace Ruins Dungeon
Your reward for finishing this quest is access to the Palace Ruins Cavern, where you’ll discover a Whimstar and 13 Dews of Inspiration hidden inside. You can collect the Whimstar by chasing after duplicated Whimstars before time runs out, and the Dews of Inspiration are scattered throughout the cavern.
Be sure to look around corners and in hidden spots to gather them all. Even though the castle has been deserted for some time, you’ll encounter Esselings lurking about. You’ll need to defeat them to navigate the cavern safely and claim your rewards.
Additionally, you can find lore notes within that detail the history of the two queens. These will be added to your compendium once you discover them!
