In Raft, while basic crafting materials are easy to find, more valuable resources require diving into the ocean where a hungry shark is always lurking. One such resource is seaweed, which may seem like a minor ingredient but is essential for creating advanced survival tools.
Fortunately, you don’t need to become shark food to collect seaweed. There are plenty of strategies to keep the shark away while you gather this crucial material. Once you manage the shark situation, you’ll find that collecting seaweed is quite straightforward.
How To Collect Seaweed
Seaweed can be found growing on the large kelp plants that cluster in the waters around islands. Unlike materials like Clay or Sand, harvesting seaweed doesn’t require any tools; you can simply collect it by hand.
Before you dive in, remember to anchor your raft with a Throwable Anchor to prevent it from drifting away.
If you’re playing on a difficulty level higher than Peaceful, expect the shark to be an issue. You can distract it using Shark Bait, which will give you a few minutes to collect seaweed unhindered. Alternatively, you can prepare for battle with a spear, though defeating the shark can be quite challenging.
The shark tends to stay close to your raft and will typically attack if you’re swimming nearby. To avoid this, you can anchor your raft at one side of an island and gather seaweed from a distance, keeping the shark occupied and allowing you to collect what you need safely.
How To Use Seaweed
Even though seaweed has a limited number of applications, it serves an essential role in Raft. You’ll need it to research and craft Flippers and Vine Goo, both of which are crucial for survival and advancement.
Flippers allow for faster swimming, making underwater exploration more efficient. Vine Goo is incredibly useful too; it’s needed for creating vital items like Circuit Boards that power devices such as Batteries and Oxygen Bottles for longer dives.
Additionally, you can feed seaweed into a Recycler to create Trash Cubes, which serve as currency at Trading Posts where you can buy various items and blueprints.
