If you reside on an island, fish are usually abundant—just like on Luma Island. In this delightful game, you’ll be able to catch various fish, which you can collect and use in numerous cooking recipes. You can also gather different aquatic plants and marine life, including crabs.
Fishing is not only a fun activity but also a key aspect of the Fisherman and Treasure Hunter professions, should you decide to pursue those paths. Whether you’re fishing for leisure or as part of a job, this guide will help you learn how to catch fish, where to find them, and how to utilize your catches.
How to Catch Fish
To catch any fish or specific sea creatures, you’ll need a Fishing Rod paired with the appropriate bait for the region, such as Caterpillars for fish around farms or towns.
Start by casting your rod into the water or near the fish you want to catch. A yellow exclamation mark will pop up above the fish’s head if you’ve cast your line within its range of interest.
Each fish has its own unique swimming pattern, whether it’s circling or darting around obstacles in the water. Take some time to observe how they move!
After a brief wait, the fish will take the bait, leading you into a fishing minigame. During this section, follow the fish with your bobber while dodging obstacles in the water. A gray indicator with a hook will appear above the fish’s head when you get close.
As you keep up with the fish, the catching indicator will begin to flash rapidly, and multiple indicators will appear until you reach the reeling stage. This is the moment to click quickly to successfully reel in your catch.
TIP: Try to time your waits for the fish at certain points in their swimming route, allowing you ample time to catch them without being obstructed.
Upgrading your Fishing Rod will enhance its speed and agility, making it easier to navigate around obstacles and reducing the time it takes to reel in a fish.
How to Catch Other Sea Creatures and Aquatic Plants
Alongside fish, various other sea creatures like jellyfish, stingrays, and squid can be found while fishing and are important for the Fisherman and Cooking professions. You’ll still need a Fishing Rod and bait to catch them.
These creatures are typically found in the same water sources but can only be caught in places without bubbles. Moreover, ensure no fish are nearby, as they will be attracted to the bait instead.
Additionally, while fishing in unoccupied areas, you might discover materials such as hay, stones, ores, and twigs, which you will catch automatically instead of needing to reel them in.
TIP: You can find aquatic plants and land-based sea creatures like mussels along the rivers, lakes, and beaches of their home region. Harvesting these can be done manually, and they respawn throughout the day and at the start of a new day.
How to Catch Treasure
Your fishing rod can also be utilized to haul in treasures for those pursuing the Treasure Hunter profession. Instead of using bait, you’ll employ different kinds of magnets. One metal bar can produce ten magnets, and they can be equipped through the bait menu.
Be aware that the type of treasure you uncover is specific to both the magnet and the area. For instance, using a Moonstone Magnet at the farm or in town will yield Sunken Farm Treasures only.
You are allowed to use higher-tier magnets to collect lower-tier treasures; however, you cannot use lower-tier magnets to retrieve higher-tier treasures.

You can also buy regional fish from their respective Mushroom Man stores for five units of the regional Nature Currency once you have caught them at least once, with a limit of five purchases per day.

Most fish, sea creatures, and aquatic plants are used as ingredients in recipes located in the Fisherman’s Galley, alongside regional spice variations made in a kiln from their respective forageables and salt.
Here’s a summary of the spices you can create:

Keep in mind that recipes beyond the Novice Level initially require a certain amount of Luma Energy to craft, but once you have created them once, they won’t require Luma Energy anymore.
Note: The Luma Energy needed for each recipe may change due to balance patches, ensuring the cost remains appropriate for players at that stage.
