Discover Gerald's Journal in Sonic X: Shadow Generations Guide

Sonic X Shadow Generations brings together two exciting experiences: a remastered version of Sonic Generations along with a fresh journey into Shadow’s backstory in Shadow Generations. Each game stands on its own, with Shadow offering its unique gameplay, environments, and collectible artwork.

Among Shadow’s special collectibles are the pages from the journal of his creator, Gerald Robotnik. Players can find 15 sets of these pages, which differ from most items in the game, as they aren’t hidden in chests. Instead, Shadow must embark on a quest to locate these pages, and we’ve got tips on how to do just that.

What Is Gerald’s Journal?

Just like Sonic has in Sonic Generations, Shadow features a Collection Room filled with character profiles, artwork, and tracks that can be unlocked by completing various stages and challenges. In this room, you’ll find Gerald’s journal, just waiting to be filled with your discoveries.

Gerald’s journal provides deeper insight into his emotional journey while creating Shadow. It explores his achievements, his dreams for his family, and the challenges posed by government and military interference in his projects. The journal offers much more detail than the brief excerpts shared in the main story.

Unfortunately, much of the content is heavily censored and charred, with important names blacked out for you to deduce. To truly uncover the complete narrative, you’ll need to locate all 15 sets of pages.

How To Collect The Pages Of Gerald’s Journal

Most of the collectibles in Shadow Generations are obtained through two main methods: opening Collection Boxes found throughout White Space or gathering notes from completed Challenge Acts. However, Gerald’s journal requires a different approach.

The quest for Gerald’s journal pages involves searching across the expansive open-world area known as White Space, where the pages are contained in flying capsules supported by three balloons. Only one capsule appears at a time, and each capsule holds only one of the 15 page sets. So, where do you find them?

These capsules change locations frequently, and their spawning points are randomized, sometimes even appearing outside Shadow’s reach. Your objective is to pop the three balloons to drop the pages.

Note: The Flying Capsules will only begin to spawn after Shadow has expanded White Space beyond Space Ark Colony and acquired the Doom Spears ability.

When you pop the balloons, make sure you do so in an accessible area; otherwise, you could be waiting for the capsule to respawn. To maximize efficiency, it’s best to fly high enough to match or exceed the height of the balloon and keep pressing the Doom Spears button until all three balloons are destroyed.

The pages fall in a specific order, so it’s unlikely you’ll miss any.

Tip: Be aware that not all pages will appear until White Space is fully expanded, so consider finishing the main storyline before collecting them.

Is There A Reward For Completing Gerald’s Journal?

Simply diving into Gerald’s journal can feel rewarding on its own! It expresses his feelings, aspirations for saving Maria, and struggles against a hostile alien force and a power-hungry military. The journal is packed with drama, hope, and life’s intricacies—what more could you want?

However, there are no tangible rewards for completing Gerald’s journal beyond the satisfaction that comes from seeing it finished. Unfortunately, there’s no trophy or accolade for this impressive feat. To ease your search, we’ve compiled a list of each page to help streamline the process if you’re finding it challenging.
