Crafting the Ideal Poem for Monika in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus

Upon becoming a member of the Literature Club in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, you’ll be invited to write poetry. If you play your cards right, you might even create a perfect poem for one of the club’s girls, like Monika. Keep in mind, though, that each character has her own unique preferences, so while your poem might resonate with one girl, it might not hit the mark for another.

Fortunately, you won’t be starting from square one when composing poems in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus. Instead, you’ll have an assortment of words to choose from to help you craft a distinct poem. Some of these words lean toward particular personalities, which means writing a poem that charms Monika might take a little more effort.

The Missing Love Interest in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus

The Deception of the First Playthrough

At first glance during your playthrough, Monika appears to be a romantic interest for the player. However, once the poem mini-game begins, it becomes evident that Monika doesn’t have any preferred words of her own. This will be humorously pointed out in various daily conversations, where Monika will highlight that the poem clearly fits better with Sayori, Natsuki, or Yuri. For now, players will have to focus on impressing the other girls until the first act concludes.

Following the first act, the game seems to reset, but everything is darker and more unsettling. Sayori is gone, and there is no mention of her. Players will notice that Sayori’s words still pop up, and both Natsuki’s and Yuri’s selections might react to those words, yet the original scores remain unchanged. While Monika’s score may appear to increase, it’s just an illusion.

Players might want to focus on crafting the first two poems in Act 2 for Natsuki in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus. Choosing this path will lead Monika to offer you a very personal and eerie poem on the final day, but this attempt will end in failure and create a false crash of the game.

Creating Monika’s Glitched Perfect Poem

Eventually, Monika will grow tired of the charade and eliminate Natsuki and Yuri, marking the start of Act 3. This moment feels like another reset, where Monika becomes the sole remaining girl. After introducing herself, you’ll have two choices: the first option is to exit Doki Doki Literature Club Plus and delete Monika’s character file, although this will not truly remove her as her presence lingers in the game.

Your second choice is to fully hear Monika’s speech. The experience will differ depending on whether you’re playing Doki Doki Literature Club Plus solo or with an audience, as streamed sessions include exclusive dialogue interactions. Once you finish the introduction, Monika will corner players into dating her with only one choice: “yes.” She will then launch the poem mini-game, which unfortunately turns out to be a broken joke.

If you are streaming or recording your gameplay with software like OBS or XSplit, Monika will recognize this and deliver a jump scare specifically tailored for your viewers as a fun easter egg for streamers.

Every word available in this mini-game is simply “Monika,” an alternative spelling, or a corrupted version such as “M1/2nik,” “Monaba,” or “on ka.” Every selection is worth three points each, resulting in a perfect score of 60. Players should unlock the achievement or trophy for Monika’s Perfect Poem in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus at this point. If that’s not the case, sharing your completed poem with Monika and revealing her own poem titled “Happy End” might be necessary.
