Lune takes on the traditional role of the spellcaster in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. While she can chaotically toss fireballs and lightning bolts, the best strategy is to use her elemental powers in a sequential manner to activate their Stain effects.
With her combination of offensive spells and strong healing abilities, Lune stands out for her flexibility among the members of Expedition 33. Of all the characters, you might find it most challenging to choose just six Skills for her. Keep reading to learn everything you need about Lune’s magical expertise in the unique realm of Clair Obscur.
How Do Lune’s Stains Function In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
Lune generates one or more Stains with each Skill she uses. These Stains are stored on the mystical glyph that she wields, visible on the right side of the screen during her turn. Generally, a Skill will produce Stains that correspond to its element (fire spells yield Fire Stains, ice spells create Ice Stains, etc.), but they can also occasionally produce Light Stains.
Lune can hold up to four Stains at a time.
Each of Lune’s spells has a special effect that activates if she has the right combination of Stains indicated at the bottom of the Skill’s description. For lower-level Skills, this might only require one Stain, while higher-tier spells may need several Stains in a specific order.
These extra effects can enhance the damage or healing of a spell, lower its AP cost, or add an additional status effect. When Lune casts a spell that can utilize her Stains, they are automatically consumed; you can’t stop her from using them unless you select a different Skill. However, she will only expend her stored Stains if she can afford the full cost of the enhanced effect, so you won’t have to worry about wasting resources.
Light Stains act as versatile resources and can substitute for any other element.
Order of Stains
To optimize Lune’s Skill usage, it’s smart to select spells that can produce Stains for subsequent spells. Early on, alternating between Ice and Fire is effective, or you can use Fire to prepare for powerful Lightning hits.
Tips for Lune
Besides healing when needed, Lune should focus on unleashing high damage against enemies’ vulnerable elements. Thus, Agility and Might are excellent Attributes to prioritize, as she can take multiple turns to generate and expend Stains. Her third Attribute will depend on the weapon you equip; some strong Lightning spells provide multiple hits along with critical hit bonuses, making Luck a solid option.
Lune’s weapon choice doesn’t have to be element-focused as much as it might for other characters, since she won’t often rely on normal attacks and can cast spells using any element she desires.
Pictos and Lumina
Lune shouldn’t waste turns on Base Attacks, so Energizing Start is a great choice to keep her AP replenished at the start of a battle. Skills like Augmented First Strike and SOS Power will boost her already impressive damage capabilities, while Dead Energy and Sweet Kill sustain her through encounters.
Since Lune uniquely can heal other teammates without using Tints, Shared Care is an efficient way to maintain the group’s health. Additionally, Critical Burn proves beneficial, especially when Lune teams up with Maelle, as both characters have several ways to inflict Burn and benefit from the extra Critical Rate of this Lumina.
Skills
Build Lune’s Skills according to the types of enemies in your current area. Be mindful of their weaknesses and resistances, and equip her accordingly. Always ensure that Lune’s setup includes at least two different elements for optimal use of her Stains, so she remains versatile.
If you need to use a Recoat to modify Lune’s available spells, that’s perfectly fine—it’s better to have the right spells than to struggle with ineffective powers.
The key is to maintain a balance of low and high AP costs, so Lune never ends up having to use a Base Attack or waste a turn on an Energy Tint. While she can deal damage with a Base Attack, Lune is designed to cast spells every turn whenever feasible. Incorporate at least one spell that restores additional AP, like Thermal Transfer, for those unexpected moments when she needs a recharge.
