Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition features a diverse lineup of party members, far exceeding previous entries in the series and many other RPGs. Each character has a unique backstory, and adding most of them to your team is generally straightforward—simply complete their respective Affinity Missions.
Mia, however, is a special case. From your first encounter with her in New Los Angeles (NLA) to her full-fledged role as a member of your team, recruiting her isn’t as simple. The journey to bring her on board is worthwhile, as she becomes one of the strongest allies in the game.
How to Add Mia to Your Team
For most characters, unlocking them is a matter of progressing through the story or finishing their Affinity Missions, which are usually marked on the map in NLA. However, Mia’s recruitment hinges on completing a series of Normal Missions (identified by green icons) throughout the game.
You must complete five missions to recruit Mia. Here’s the list of missions and when they unlock:
- Mamma Mia! – Finish Chapter Three.
- Adventure! – Finish Chapter Five.
- Mighty Mia – Finish Chapter Six.
- It’s-a Mia! – Finish Chapter Nine and the “A Girl’s Wings” Affinity Mission.
- Mia Is Missing! – Finish Chapter Eleven, the “Definian Downfall” Normal Mission, and achieve a 65% survey rate for Cauldros.
As you might guess, you must finish each previous mission before the next one becomes available.
Once you complete all these missions, Mia will officially join your party. Additionally, she has her own Affinity Mission, which becomes available only after she’s part of your team.
How to Complete Mia’s Missions
Although Mia’s individual missions aren’t overly complex, the challenge lies in locating them. Here’s a breakdown of each mission and its location.
Mamma Mia!
You can find this mission in NLA, not far from the elevator leading to the Outfitters Test Hangar in the Administrative District. Speak with Mia, who expresses her desire for adventure, and asks for your help in getting past the city walls.
To finish this mission, you must purchase Iron Blades and Combat Bodywear from the nearby Armory Alley store. Ensure you get the exact items she requests, as she won’t accept anything else. With her new gear, she’s ready to start her adventure.
Adventure!
This mission is located in Noctilum, near the top of the Skybound Coil Tree’s canopy. Mia has misplaced her comm device and needs your assistance to retrieve it. The device isn’t far away and can be quickly located on your map. Be wary, as it is guarded by a level 41 Tyrant, but you can stealthily walk under it. Alternatively, consider using Shadowrunner for safety.
After returning her comm device, Mia finds herself in trouble again, trapped atop a Wood Tectinsula. Defeat this creature to win her gratitude, though she won’t offer any rewards right now. Next, she heads off to Oblivia.
Mighty Mia
In the next mission, Mia is perched atop the enormous Leaning Ring of Oblivia, being attacked by a Falconine Jacul. Once again, it’s up to you to come to her rescue.
After you defeat the beast, she thanks you and escapes before you can request a reward. Surely, she must have something to offer next time!
It’s-a Mia!
Now, Mia has finally obtained her own Skell, which she meant to use when she initially sought to leave NLA—but, naturally, she has broken it. You’ll need to gather two New Cylinders from Guardian Pugiliths in Sylvalum and five pieces of Missile Wiring, which can be located on your map.
Once you repair her Skell, a pair of Buoyant Pugiliths will attack you. Defeat them to earn more thanks from Mia. While she may be overflowing with gratitude, her rewards aren’t monetary. Off to Cauldros she goes!
Mia Is Missing
Mia has somehow fallen into the hands of the Ganglion and is locked away in the Ganglion Antropolis in Cauldros. Once you reach her location, she’ll ask you to overcome her captor to obtain the key to her cell.
Within the Antropolis, you’ll encounter a Definian enemy; defeating them will provide the key to free Mia. After escorting her back to NLA, you finally receive the promised reward for your trouble—her presence in your party. Although it’s not cash, it’s certainly a valuable addition to your team. She also gives you the FILE-USP0880SA, which is needed to craft one of the Skell Superweapons, adding extra value to your effort.
Mia as a Team Member
Once Mia joins your party, you’ve likely accomplished a significant portion of the game. Thankfully, she comes equipped with several beneficial abilities, making her a valuable asset for the remaining challenges. She serves as a typical Psycorruptor, complete with two unique Signature Arts for the Raygun:
- Clarity Ray – Cleanses debuffs and provides Ether Resistance to nearby allies.
- Beam Bomber – Targets enemies in front, inflicting extra damage when used alongside an Aura.
Mia excels at supporting your team by applying debuffs to enemies and enhancing her allies. She is also capable of dealing notable damage, but her true strength lies in her support abilities. Skills like Extra Armor bolster her resilience in tougher battles, making her a dependable companion on your journey.
