In your journey through Atomfall, you’ll find that gathering Atomic Batteries is a central task. These vintage-style power sources are essential for operating the high-tech systems in the Interchange. However, since the Windscale Disaster five years ago, the remaining operational ones have been scattered throughout the Quarantine Zone.
Whether you’re aiming to make a quick getaway or want to collect every Atomic Battery available, this guide will assist you in obtaining enough batteries to power the Data Stores and reach the Oberon Site. What you do once you arrive there is entirely your choice.
Where to Find Atomic Batteries
To access the Oberon Site, you’ll require at least five Atomic Batteries. If you plan to use the industrial drill to extract a piece of the meteor at the site, you’ll need an additional two batteries (though these can also be found on site if you prefer).
The first Atomic Battery, necessary for powering the Central Processing unit, can be found on the lifeless body next to the console in that area. You can grab it as you enter the Interchange from any of the entry points. For the remaining batteries, you will need to venture into the Quarantine Zone.
Batteries in Slatten Dale
Molly Jowett offers an Atomic Battery for trade at her camp, located at 26.4E, 79.1. When you secure the battery, she might also mention that she sold another one to the Vicar.
Batteries in Wyndham Village
Morris at the Hardware Shop has another Battery available for trade.
The Vicar at the church has a Battery locked away in a chest upstairs; you can either assist him in dealing with Morris to get the Battery as a reward, or take him out and grab the key for yourself.
You can also retrieve Batteries from the combat robots roaming the streets, but be cautious as there are many soldiers present, making this approach risky.
Batteries in Casterfell Woods
The High Priestess of the Druids possesses an Atomic Battery. To obtain it, enter the castle located in the southwest corner of the map and retrieve the castle key from the storeroom on the left side of the building. Use this key to unlock the hidden latch on the wall behind the throne, leading you to the caves.
You will find the High Priestess at the bottom level of the caves; you can either sneak or fight your way to her and claim the Battery after defeating her. Be careful not to knock her into the Oberite pit, as this will cause her to take the Battery with her.
Billy Gorse, a trader located at 21.5E, 89.6N, also has a Battery he is willing to sell.
The Dam Data Store in the northeast is guarded by a flamethrower robot; besting it will allow you to claim its Battery.
Batteries on Skethermoor
Nora Thorndike runs a smuggling operation from her barn located at 41.2E, 78.3N. Head over to Alf at the Grendel’s Head Pub in Wyndham, mention that he sent you, and you can arrange a trade for the Atomic Battery she has.
The Vehicle Depot at 43.4E, 74.6N contains a Battery locked in a storage room. Pick up the key from the beds in the bunkroom, then use it to unlock the door at the back-right corner of the main area. Utilize a Radiation Resistance med or skilfully navigate around the uranium piles to access the storeroom and retrieve the Battery.
Skethermoor is also home to several patrolling robots; you can defeat them to extract their Batteries if you’re up for the challenge.
What to Do with Atomic Batteries
Atomic Batteries are essential for activating the Data Store Terminals at sites Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta within the Interchange. Each terminal requires one Battery. By powering these Data Stores, you’ll unlock further sections of the Interchange, helping you piece together the story and discover additional resources as you explore deeper.
Keep in mind that each Battery occupies an inventory slot. Therefore, it’s wise to store any extra Batteries you find in the nearest bunker’s Pneumatic Storage Tube and retrieve them just before placing them at the Interchange. Indicators for each Data Store can typically be found near a Tube, allowing you to wait until needed to retrieve a stored Battery.
