No high school-themed game about being in a spooky situation would be complete without a gifting system. In The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, the Gift-o-Matic elevates your passion for giving gifts to your friends. You get to both buy and craft these unique presents.
With the Gift-o-Matic featuring an array of possible gifts for your teammates, you can earn significant boosts to your grades by choosing the right ones. Strategically utilizing the Gift-o-Matic during missions and in your Free Time will maximize your team’s potential.
How to Give Gifts
Crafting Presents in the Gift-o-Matic
Many visual novels, including The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, include gifting features. On Day 010, following a rather unusual announcement from Sirei, you’ll be able to access the Rec Room on the Academy’s second floor. Go there and speak to Eito, who will introduce you to the Gift-o-Matic.
You may have already seen the various materials displayed at the bottom of your pause screen. These materials, which you collect while exploring outside the Academy, are also used to upgrade your team’s Class Weapons. Just remember to conserve some of these materials for crafting gifts, as the Gift-o-Matic requires you to create each gift you want to give.
Making gifts involves using both resources and Battle Points in the machine. You can browse the list of available items and get a quick overview of each recipe before crafting. It’s essential to check the categories of items, since your classmates have various preferences that influence what they might appreciate receiving.
You can filter the Gift-o-Matic recipes by category, which helps streamline your options if you know what type of item you’re after. Understanding what your classmates enjoy, even in a general sense, will make the process easier. With so many gift recipes available, the catalog can feel overwhelming. Spending time with your teammates will also help you learn about their preferences.
You’ll find that many gifts in the Gift-o-Matic are locked until you acquire a specific item, usually found at treasure spots on the expedition boards. Try to hit those spots whenever you can, as they hold the keys to unlocking the best gifts in the game.
Your persuasion missions also rely on the Gift-o-Matic. You must create specific items to persuade certain classmates to join the fight against the invaders. These missions usually have set dates and the game will guide you on where to go to unlock each persuasion gift.
Giving Gifts to Use Free Time Wisely and Improve Grades
Once you craft a gift in the Gift-o-Matic, you give it to the recipient immediately. This action takes up one of your Free Time slots, so make sure you’re prepared to advance the story before you start handing out gifts.
As you interact with your teammates around the Academy between battles, you will not only pick up clues about their likes and dislikes but also get hints from other classmates about their interests. You can also experiment with item categories when gifting.
Your friends will have different reactions to your gifts: they can either love, like, or dislike what you give them. You’ll earn grade points based on their feelings about the gift. Here’s how it breaks down:
- Loved gifts hit the mark perfectly, granting you 30 grade points in the subject your classmate contributes to, along with a sweet scene of appreciation.
- Liked gifts yield a modest ten grade points.
- Disliked gifts waste both Free Time and materials, granting you no grade points, and while it doesn’t impact your long-term progress, it may leave your friend feeling a bit hurt.
Given that there are multiple ways to study and resources are often limited, try to discover your classmates’ interests before giving gifts to avoid wasting time and materials on gifts that won’t be appreciated. While the reactions can be funny, wasting resources is not ideal! Generally, it’s wise to wait until you can give a gift that your friend will truly love, unless you need to boost your grades quickly.
