The JRPG genre is celebrated for its exceptional storytelling, featuring some of the most cherished characters in various forms of media. The ability of developers to showcase characters’ relationships through gameplay elements makes it even more remarkable, enhancing their growth and development.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition emphasizes the bonds among party members through the Soul Voice system. In this game, combat not only plays a crucial role in advancing through the story, but it also strengthens the connections between characters. Here’s a guide on maximizing this system while exploring the world of Mira.
What Are Soul Voices?
Soul Voices are essentially commands you can give to your party during battles, either initiated by NPCs or yourself. You’ll see color-coded speech bubbles appear when your allies execute a move, encouraging you or others to take specific actions.
To trigger your own Soul Voice, you must first use an Art. After that, you’ll face a quick-time event known as a Soul Challenge. Press B before the timer expires, which activates your Soul Voice and prompts NPCs to utilize their skills.
If you possess an Art that matches the color of an NPC’s bubble, it will light up. Executing this Art will complete the Soul Voice and yield various advantages.
Soul Voice prompts are temporary, so ensure your Arts are ready to go to fully benefit from them.
Benefits of Soul Voices
You’ll know you’ve successfully executed a Soul Voice when both you and your NPC ally are surrounded by colored rings, corresponding to the Art used. Both characters receive a health boost, and their affinity increases, leading to deeper interactions.
A successful Soul Voice can also bring significant pain to your opponent. This may mean dealing more damage, or more commonly, inflicting a debilitating status effect.
By paying close attention to your team’s cues and leveraging the Soul Voice system, you can leave your foes broken, staggered, or even toppled, rendering them completely vulnerable.
