Collecting gold in Oblivion Remastered can feel like a slow journey—unless you’re taking advantage of PC mods or item duplication glitches. If you’re not role-playing a character who resists theft, you can make a good amount of money by relieving NPCs of their valuables.
However, you can’t just sell stolen items to regular merchants. There are specific characters known as fences in Oblivion who specialize in buying illicit goods. To sell to them, you need to meet certain conditions. Here’s a guide on how to get started.
How to Sell Stolen Goods in Oblivion Remastered
Your primary option for selling stolen items is by joining the Thieves Guild. We have a dedicated guide on how to join the Thieves Guild that can help you accomplish this.
During Thieves Guild missions, you’ll need to sell a certain quantity of stolen goods, which builds the trust of the fences. Conveniently, once you join the guild, you’ll be directed to Ongar the World-Weary, your first fence.
Ongar can be found in Bruma. While he has a shack, he often prefers to hang out at Olav’s Tap and Tack. He may look tired, but he’s ready to do business around the clock.
In Oblivion Remastered (similar to other Elder Scrolls titles), merchants have a limited supply of gold at any given time.
Interestingly, in both the original version of Oblivion and the remake, this limitation only applies to how much they will buy in one transaction. By exiting the sale menu and re-entering, you can sell far more than the 600 gold limit for stolen items to Ongar.
As you advance within the Thieves Guild, more fences will become available to you. Here’s a list of some:

More Fences
There are additional fences to trade with in Oblivion, but they require the Thieves Den DLC. Fortunately, all player house add-ons are included in Oblivion Remastered, regardless of whether you bought the Standard or Deluxe Edition.
You’ll need to buy upgrades for the Thieves Den’s Dunbarrow Cove home in-game to eventually unlock three more fences: Jak Silver, Khafiz, Kovan Kren, and Melliwin.
