In Slitterhead, players take on the role of Hyoki, a being that lacks a physical body. As Hyoki, players search for monsters hidden in human form, referred to as “Slitterheads.” To uncover these creatures, players can possess various human characters and wield their blood and life force as weapons against the Slitterheads. Completing specific missions is essential to revealing more about the game’s gruesome and surreal narrative.
Some missions are tied to unique characters called “Rarities.” These Rarities come equipped with distinct abilities and weapons. By unlocking and possessing them, players can access new powers and missions. While some Rarities are easily found, others require more effort to discover, but all play a crucial role in advancing Slitterhead’s storyline.
How to Unlock All Rarities
Eight Rarities Available
In Slitterhead, players can find eight Rarities to recruit. Certain characters are only available at specific times and locations, while others can be unlocked through regular gameplay. Below is a guide on how to find all the Rarities in this horror-filled game created by former Silent Hill developers.
Julee Is Available in the Prologue
Julee is the first Rarity and can be unlocked during the prologue by simply playing through the introductory section. Unlike the generic characters available for possession, Julee possesses powerful blood claws that enhance your combat abilities and offer superior stats along with unique skills. During this segment, Julee affectionately nicknames Hyoki the "Night Owl."
Julee’s primary ability, Revive All, enables her to heal nearby NPCs, including herself. This skill is particularly useful during intense battles, making her both a strong combatant and a supportive ally.
Alex and Anita Appear on Days 3 and 1
While investigating the Slitterhead crisis, Hyoki and Julee witness the deaths of two other Rarities: Alex and Anita. Fortunately, a new power unlocks, granting them the ability to time travel.
To rescue these characters, players must complete two missions: the Day 1 mission titled “Black Payback,” where Alex can be saved, and the Day 3 mission called “Missing Girl RE (2nd Loop),” where they save Anita. Since players already know the outcomes, finding and saving them should be straightforward.
Unlocking Alex provides access to abilities like Blood Well, which creates a field filled with blood, Time Bomb, which sets explosives on enemies, and Bloody Blast, letting Alex shoot blood-filled projectiles from a shotgun. Anita’s abilities include Devil’s Scent, which summons a crowd of civilians, and Mind Hack, enabling control over them to fight for you.
Edo Is Unlocked on Day 1
On Day 1, players will embark on the mission “Lurking Parasite RE (2nd Loop),” which requires an investigation of the main street, rooftops, and alleys. This mission leads players to two residents who provide clues about a homeless man’s dog. Following these clues directs players to the Fish and Eggs Restaurant, where the dog is found nearby.
By utilizing Hyoki’s ability to possess the dog, players can use its sense of smell to find an injured character named Edo. Possessing Edo unlocks this Rarity, who excels as a close-range fighter with powerful attack abilities and agile dodges.
Tri Is Unlocked on Day 2
In the “Hidden Cave RE (2nd Loop)” quest, players will discover someone being held captive above a chapel. By sneaking around and reaching the balcony, players can find Tri fighting a Slitterhead. Possessing Tri yields abilities like Sentry Thorns, which creates attacking shrubs, and Bloody Knuckles, which causes enemies to bleed. Tri’s Crimson Chains ability can bind enemies, slowing their movements.
Doni Is Unlocked on Day 2
To unlock Doni, players need to revisit Day 2 through the “Sleepless Zone RE (2nd Loop)” mission. As Edo, players will need to exit a building using the rooftop, ignore nearby disturbances, and pick the lock on a specific door. Upon entering, players can possess a character and discover an injured Doni. Defeating the Slitterhead and possessing him unlocks this Rarity.
Doni has several abilities, including Curse Resist, which negates negative effects, Fatal Lance, enabling the use of a blood spear, and Revenge Guard, which unleashes a shockwave after receiving damage.
Blake Is Unlocked Through Story Progression
Blake can be unlocked through the progression of the story, with reports of players obtaining him during various missions. It is believed that completing a certain number of missions helps unlock this character.
Blake’s abilities include Bloody Shot, which forms a blood-powered machine gun, Bloody Mine, turning blood pools into landmines, and Bloody Gamble, which creates a potentially dangerous blood handgun.
Betty Is Unlocked by Completing All Mysterious Old Lady Encounters
The final Rarity, Betty, requires players to complete all six encounters with a mysterious old lady. She proves to be a powerful ally who can swiftly dispatch Slitterheads using her blood cane.
Players encounter Betty throughout three days: on Day 1 during the “Lurking Parasite RE (2nd Loop)” and “Oppressive Force RE (2nd Loop)” missions, on Day 2 during “Hidden Cave RE (2nd Loop)” and “Sleepless Zone RE (2nd Loop)” missions, and finally on Day 3 during “Insidious Sucker RE (2nd Loop)” and “Missing Girl RE (2nd Loop)” missions.
As your final Rarity, Betty boasts various exceptional skills, such as Indomitable for strength enhancement and temporary invulnerability, Diabolic for dealing immense damage to any approaching Slitterheads, and Lunatic, where she incites murderous thoughts in nearby Slitterheads.
With all eight Rarities unlocked in your Slitterhead adventure, players will be better equipped to combat the Slitterhead hordes while engaging in deeper missions and storylines. Each Rarity adds unique abilities to the gameplay, bringing both new challenges and novel experiences in the fight against the Slitterhead invasion.
