A highly anticipated PlayStation 4 action-adventure game has been canceled. The game, which was originally planned for older consoles, was unexpectedly scrapped after development shifted focus.
In a recent social media post, developer Techland confirmed that Dying Light: The Beast won’t be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. This survival horror game set in the Dying Light universe was initially announced for the previous generation of consoles. However, due to the game’s advanced features, earlier consoles simply lack the necessary power.
“Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to fully utilize current-generation hardware. Its expansive open world, cutting-edge visuals, and smooth combat and traversal depend on processing power and memory that older consoles cannot support. As development went on, it became clear that porting the game to those platforms would mean making compromises that would hinder us from delivering the experience we envisioned,” the post explained on social media.
“This isn’t a decision to exclude those platforms arbitrarily; rather, it reflects the technical realities we face and our dedication to providing the best possible experience.”
Currently, the game is available on modern consoles and PC for players interested in checking it out.
