If you’re looking to explore the magical arts in Oblivion Remastered, one of the first things on your list should be joining the Mages Guild. This organization offers training in various schools of magic, provides access to new spells, and allows you to enchant your gear. Plus, there are some captivating quests tied to the guild that you won’t want to overlook. Even though I played as a Knight during my adventure, I found the initial quests for the Mages Guild to be engaging and enjoyable.
Joining the Mages Guild is generally more straightforward than enrolling in the Thieves Guild. However, you will need to fulfill a few requirements before you can really start reaping the benefits of your membership. Fortunately, Oblivion Remastered has made these tasks fun and less monotonous. To kick things off, look for one of the many Mages Guild locations scattered throughout Cyrodiil—these places are quite easy to identify.
Finding the Mages Guild
Mages Guild houses can be found in most of the major cities in the Standard Edition of Oblivion Remastered, except for Kvatch. While the Imperial City features the Arcane University, it’s best to begin your journey at a local chapter to initiate your membership.
Each Mages Guildhouse is marked by a sign out front and typically has a distinctive stained-glass window with an eye emblem. You can usually find the Mages Guild located near the Fighters Guild, which has striking red flags. If you’re having difficulty locating the Mages Guild, just look for the Fighters Guild nearby. Once you’ve located the building, head inside and converse with a member to begin the joining process.
How To Join The Mages Guild
To officially join the Mages Guild, you’ll need to talk to the leader of that chapter. These leaders often wear long blue robes, but this isn’t always the case. Below is a list of Mages Guild locations along with their respective leaders:
Mages Guild Location | Local Leader |
---|---|
Anvil | Carahil |
Bravil | Kud-ei |
Bruma | Jeanne Frasoric |
Cheydinhal | Falcar |
Chorrol | Teekeeus |
Leyawiin | Dagail |
Skingrad | Adrienne Berene |
To gain entry into the Mages Guild, simply ask to join, as long as you don’t have a bounty on your head. If you do, you will need to clear your name before proceeding. Although this conversation allows you to join the guild in name, you’ll need recommendations from each of the leaders mentioned above to gain full membership, which includes access to the Arcane University.
Completing Recommendation Quests
Each leader will assign you a unique quest, which also helps you learn useful spells. Don’t worry if you’re not skilled in magic, as I managed to complete these quests easily with a low-intelligence Knight character. These quests are not mere fetch tasks; they often provide hints for larger storylines that become crucial as you advance within the Mages Guild.
Oblivion Remastered also allows fast travel between major cities, enabling you to visit each chapter of the Mages Guild quickly to complete your recommendation quests. If you’re unsure which NPC to approach for your recommendation, just ask any mage inside the guild about it. For anyone needing to find Falcar in Cheydinhal, it’s best to visit around 10 or 11 in the morning, as he tends to stay locked in his room for long stretches.
Once you’ve successfully completed the recommendation quests, your next objective will be to head to the Arcane University in the Imperial City. Upon arrival, you’ll receive new robes and gain access to various university facilities. Just be cautious not to wander into restricted areas, as that could land you in hot water. Now that you’re a full-fledged member of the Mages Guild in Oblivion Remastered, you can fully immerse yourself in the magical arts and enhance your skills like never before.
