Knowing the basics will set you up for success. As you start your journey to becoming a skilled Temtem Tamer, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed given all the exploration and activities awaiting you. To ease your initiation, we’ve simplified the crucial information into clear steps. Also, if you’re new, take a look at our guide on choosing the best starter Temtem for your journey.
Once you’ve selected your starter, you’ll encounter numerous Tamer battles. Our tips will help you understand the game’s combat system so you can thrive as a top Temtem Tamer in the Airborne Archipelago.
The world of Temtem is vast, and while fans of Pokémon may find some familiar elements, this MMO offers unique challenges and features. You’ll face off against other Tamers, discover new landscapes, and collect various Temtem. Our comprehensive tips will help you get started on the right foot.
1. Start Catching Temtem Right Away
After receiving your starter Temtem from the professor, you’ll obtain TemCards that allow you to catch new creatures found in the tall grass. It’s a smart move to catch additional Temtem early on to build a strong team. Most battles involve two vs two, and if you’re not equipped with enough Temtem or fail to heal when needed, it’s easy to be knocked out early on.
2. Monitor Your Stamina Bar and Use Moves Strategically
Each Temtem has a Stamina bar that decreases when you use moves. When selecting an attack, you’ll see how much stamina each action requires. If the stamina runs out, you can still attack, but your Temtem will suffer health damage due to overexertion and miss its next turn.
3. You Control When Your Temtem Rest in Combat
During a fight, you’ll notice a clock icon that allows you to make your Temtem rest and regain Stamina. Keeping a close watch on both Stamina and Health bars will help you strategically decide the best moments to recover.
4. Moves Can Have Varying Turn Requirements and Priorities
During battles, some moves might appear gray and unselectable at first. This indicates that those moves have a turn requirement before they can be executed. The number of stripes on an attack indicates how many turns it must wait. For instance, a move with two stripes can’t be used until it has been active for two turns.
Some moves take priority in combat, meaning they’ll execute first. A plus sign next to a move indicates high priority. For moves without this symbol, you can check their priority by right-clicking on them.
Additionally, if a Temtem uses a move that corresponds to its type, it receives a damage boost. For example, the starter Temtem Crystle will deal more damage when using a Crystal-type move.
5. Be Mindful of the Attack Circle Colors
When selecting a move in a battle, pay attention to the color of the attack circle. A red circle means that the opposing Temtem is resistant to that type of attack, resulting in reduced damage. If you proceed with that attack, a percentage will display showing how much less damage you deal – often around 50% – due to the type disadvantage. Just like in Pokémon, specific Temtem types have distinct strengths and weaknesses against others; for instance, Fire is effective against Nature.
6. Utilize Home or Temporium Healing to Conserve Balms
As you start your journey and venture into new areas, you’re likely to battle a lot of NPCs, which means your Temtem will take damage. With a limited number of Balms—used for healing—it’s helpful to know you can return home to Zadar and speak to Aina to heal all your Temtem at once.
During your journey, you’ll discover Temporiums that function like Pokémon Centers. You may also find Mini Temporiums, temporary healing spots in the wild that become useful after numerous battles. It’s smart to utilize these healing spots frequently early in the game, reserving Balms for when they are absolutely necessary.
7. Avoid Using the Same Temtem Over and Over
While you may become attached to certain Temtem along your journey, it’s important to use all the creatures on your team to maximize your battle experience. The amount of experience earned by each Temtem depends on the level of the opponents you face. If you consistently rely on the same two Temtem, they will inevitably outlevel others, leading to diminished experience gains against lower-level opponents. Therefore, frequently rotate your Temtem during battles to maintain a balanced team that benefits from the diverse levels of your opponents.
8. Educate Yourself at the Accademia in Brical de Mar
Upon arriving in Brical de Mar as the Professor suggested, make sure to visit the Accademia building. This spot lets you learn about various battling tactics and move principles. It consists of classrooms filled with helpful books providing insights into abilities and combat strategies.
9. Challenge Your Friends
If you have a friend playing Temtem as well, you can send them a friend request through the menu by selecting the two-person icon and navigating to the Friends tab. Enter your friend’s username in the Tamer search option to send a request. You can also interact with nearby players via this tab. Once your friend accepts your request, you can challenge them to battles and explore their character and Temtem team.
