A tragic incident unfolded during Mohamed Ramadan’s performance as part of the Porto Beats Festival at the Golf Porto Marina on the North Coast, when the pyrotechnics unexpectedly failed. One young man lost his life, and several others sustained injuries.
Ramadan addressed the incident, retracting his previous statement that suggested an assassination attempt.
He clarified on Instagram, “Correction: It was likely a gas cylinder explosion caused by fireworks, not an explosive device.” He also added that investigations are still underway.
The artist confirmed that he personally spoke with the Porto Marina management, ensuring that the entire venue and stage had been thoroughly inspected and cleared of any hazards to ensure audience and performer safety.
In a tweet, Ramadan explained, “The concert was abruptly ended after an explosion occurred right next to me on stage. I could still feel the impact in my ear.” Sadly, one worker died, and two others are in critical condition. Our thoughts are with their families; may God grant them patience, healing, and forgiveness.
Ramadan previously posted on Instagram describing the incident as a “full-fledged assassination attempt,” but later emphasized that it was accidental, involving a gas cylinder explosion from the fireworks display, with no malicious intent.
Further statements from the organizer, Yasser Al-Hariri, and a representative from the fireworks company, Mohamed Al-Sayed, revealed differing accounts. While Al-Hariri attributed the mishap to the fireworks company’s error, Al-Sayed dismissed this claim and confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with officials actively being questioned.
It was confirmed that the crew member from the fireworks team who was injured did not succumb to the accident intentionally, and it was deemed an unfortunate accident. Security officials continue to analyze what transpired.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Ramadan remains engaged in filming his upcoming movie “Lion,” directed and written by Mohamed Diab, set to premiere soon in theaters.
