Musk: Robotaxi Launch Is Most Important Since Model 3

According to reports from September 11, Tesla has reached significant milestones throughout its history, shaping the company into what it is today. The launch of the first Model S demonstrated Tesla’s capability to build a car from the ground up. Subsequently, the introduction of the Model 3 showcased the company’s commitment to becoming a major player in the mass market automotive sector.

Recently, Elon Musk hinted at another groundbreaking event, the debut of the Robotaxi known as “Cybercab,” set for October 10, 2024. In a discussion on the social media platform X, Musk responded to a longtime Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) user, who noted that this upcoming event could be the most pivotal moment for Tesla since launching the Model 3 in 2016.

The Model 3’s release was not only significant for Tesla but also for the broader movement toward sustainable transportation. At the unveiling, Musk revealed that Tesla had received an astounding 115,000 pre-orders for the all-electric sedan, a remarkable figure considering many customers committed to the purchase before even seeing the vehicle.

This impressive demand underscored the interest in affordable, high-end electric cars. Although Tesla faced considerable production challenges while trying to meet Model 3 demand, the company can now reflect on those times with a sense of pride, recalling that securing 115,000 reservations for electric vehicles just eight years ago was an ambitious goal.

The upcoming Robotaxi showcase is expected to highlight the Cybercab, which Musk believes could revolutionize Tesla’s ride-hailing future. Designed specifically for full autonomy, the Cybercab is anticipated to be a smaller vehicle than the Model 3 and was described in Isaac Walterson’s biography of Musk as a compact two-seater without a steering wheel.

While details about the Cybercab are scarce, Tesla’s Q2 2024 update indicated that the vehicle will be manufactured using the company’s innovative “Unboxed” process. Additionally, Tesla confirmed that production of the Robotaxi would take place at Giga Texas.
