Mumbai: The highly anticipated official trailer for “Dune: Prophecy,” an original series from HBO Max that serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed “Dune” films, has just been released.
This six-episode series, produced by Warner Bros Discovery, is set to debut in India on JioCinema on November 18.
The trailer for “Dune: Prophecy” hints at a captivating storyline filled with complex power dynamics and intrigue within the legendary “Dune” universe, previously showcased in Villeneuve’s blockbuster adaptations.
The cast features a stellar lineup, including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha.
This series takes place 10,000 years before the events depicted in Frank Herbert’s groundbreaking novel “Dune,” which was adapted into two feature films by Villeneuve, released in 2021 and 2023.
In those films, Charlotte Rampling portrayed Reverend Mother Mohiam, the Emperor’s Bene Gesserit adviser, while Lady Jessica, played by Rebecca Ferguson, is the Bene Gesserit mother of the central character, Paul, interpreted by Timothee Chalamet.
According to the official synopsis, the narrative follows two sisters from the House Harkonnen as they navigate threats to humanity’s future and work to establish the esteemed sect known as the Bene Gesserit.
Originally titled “Dune: The Sisterhood,” “Dune: Prophecy” draws inspiration from the novel “Sisterhood of Dune,” authored by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
Tabu stars as Sister Francesca, characterized as a “strong, intelligent, and captivating” figure whose presence leaves a profound impact. Her return to the palace, once a cherished companion of the Emperor, disrupts the established power dynamics in the capital, according to her character description.
Alison Schapker serves as the showrunner and executive producer, alongside Diane Ademu-John, who co-developed the series. The project is a collaboration between HBO and Legendary Television.
