LAHORE – An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has found singer Omar Malik not guilty in a case linked to the attack on Jinnah House during the violent events of May 9, which occurred after the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
During the court session, the ATC judge pressed the investigation officer on the timing of Malik’s arrest, which came 16 months after the incident. “Why did you stay quiet for 16 months?” he asked. The judge also inquired why Malik had not been labeled a fugitive by the court.
After considering the arguments presented, the judge cleared the singer of all charges in this case.
It’s important to note that the Federal Investigation Agency’s cybercrime unit arrested Omar Malik on October 10. He was brought to court after a 10-day physical remand.
On May 9, 2023, a large group of protesters caused damage to Jinnah House, the official residence of the Lahore Corps Commander, following Imran Khan’s arrest in a corruption case. The unrest led to attacks on various military and civilian facilities nationwide, resulting in a crackdown that saw many individuals arrested for their roles in the vandalism.
