Los Angeles: Acclaimed actress Kate Winslet, who won an Oscar for her performances, has finally discussed the legendary scene from “Titanic” involving a “door,” which she claims might not be a door at all.
During an appearance on the Australian talk show, The Project, Winslet clarified that the object often referred to as a “door” in that memorable scene was actually a different part of the set.
When probed about whether there was enough space on the floating object for her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, whose character Jack Dawson clung to the piece after the ship went down, Winslet admitted she anticipated that question, according to reports from people.com.
“I thought, ‘He’s going to ask the Titanic question, and then he’ll bring up the door,’” Winslet recounted. “I totally expected it.”
“What’s intriguing is that people keep calling it a door. In reality, it wasn’t actually a door at all.”
“It was actually a broken piece of bannister, maybe from a staircase. Who knows if Leo could have fit on it or not? I honestly have no more insight than what everyone else has speculated.”
This iconic scene has sparked endless debate among “Titanic” enthusiasts since the film’s release in 1997. Some fans on Reddit have even reached the conclusion that the debris wasn’t a door, comparing it to images from within the ship.
In a previous exploration of the subject, “Titanic” director James Cameron commissioned a scientific study to analyze if there was sufficient space for both Jack and Rose on the piece of wood. A group of scientists and two stunt doubles reenacted four distinct scenarios to investigate the question.
“Jack could have survived, but there are many factors involved. I believe his mindset was, ‘I won’t do anything that puts her at risk.’”
