In the UK, God of War Ragnarok is the second biggest boxed game launch of the year.
The PlayStation game sold more boxed copies in its first week than Elden Ring, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
It’s possible God of War wasn’t quite No.2 overall, since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had a significant download component (we’ll get the download data later this week). However, Sony’s title had a massive opening week. The PS5 sold 82% of week one boxed games, while the PS4 sold 18%.
In its first week, Ragnarok sold more than any previous game in the series, according to charts company GfK. According to the data firm, God of War sold 51% more units in its first week than this. It’s already the third best-selling God of War title (and second best in terms of revenue) in just one week.
The PS5 bundle accounts for 12% of God of War Ragnarok sales. According to GfK’s Dorian Bloch, this bundle represented 60% of all PS5 console sales during the week.
Those two weeks at the top of the charts are over for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. After a slight 39% drop in sales, Activision Blizzard’s title drops to No.2.
Sonic Frontiers is No.4 this month. Sonic Forces sold 5% more copies in its first week, although digital probably extend that. PlayStation 5 was responsible for 40% of boxed sales, Nintendo Switch for 34%, Xbox for 14%, and PS4 for 12%.
