Framework, a company known for its modular computing innovations, is venturing into new hardware territories with the unveiling of its first entry-level laptop at a launch event held in San Francisco, California on Tuesday.
The new device, named Framework Laptop 12, is the smallest laptop in the brand’s lineup, showcasing a custom 12.2-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 200, over 400 nits of brightness, stylus compatibility, and a convertible two-in-one design. Framework’s founder, Nirav Patel, described it as their “easiest to use, most repairable, and most durable product to date.”

Opting for higher-end specifications seen in more premium devices, the Framework Laptop 12 features the complete range of Intel’s 13th-generation core processors, supports up to 48GB of memory, offers up to 2TB of storage, and comes equipped with Wi-Fi 6E. Pointers from the company’s teaser before the launch hinted at a colorful and versatile design, which indeed proved to be accurate.
Customers can choose from five vibrant color options, including Lavender, Sage, Grey, Black, and Bubblegum, enhanced by a two-toned color scheme that not only looks stylish but also adds to the laptop’s durability.
Patel explained, “We utilize shock-absorbing TPU over a mode of plastic supported by a metal inner structure to handle bumps and drops. Like all our products, any part can be swapped out in just minutes.”
The Framework Laptop 12 appears to be tailored for students and younger users, making it more appealing to that demographic. Preorders for the device are set to begin in April, with general availability projected for mid-year, though no pricing details have been disclosed yet.
In addition to the new laptop, Framework also announced updates for the Framework Laptop 13 and Laptop 16, while introducing a new product altogether: the Framework Desktop, powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max processor, designed with gaming and AI functionalities in mind.
