In the second act of Path of Exile 2, you journey through the Vastiri Desert in pursuit of the Beast of Corruption. Your quest leads you to a confrontation with Jamanra, the Risen King, who manages to escape into the desert before you can finish him.
To follow Jamanra deeper into the desert, you’ll need to gather the parts to assemble the Horn of Orbala. This horn allows you to clear away the sand and wind, and you’ll embark on three quests to find its components, including the City of Seven Waters quest for the Essence of Water. Below, we’ll discuss how to tackle Azarian, who guards this Essence in Keth.
Where to Find Azarian, The Forsaken Son
Azarian, known as the Forsaken Son, is the final boss in the quest City of Seven Waters, located in Keth during Act 2. After navigating through Keth, the Lost City, and finally reaching the Buried Shrines, you’ll encounter Azarian protecting the tomb of the Water Goddess.
How to Defeat Azarian, The Forsaken Son
The battle with Azarian takes place in a square arena featuring a large brazier in each corner. If an attack—whether yours or Azarian’s—collides with any of these braziers, it will explode, igniting that specific corner of the arena.
If all four braziers are destroyed, the arena will be mostly engulfed in flames, leaving the center as the only safe spot. This arrangement puts you at a significant disadvantage, since Azarian tends to attack from the center, forcing you to step into the flames to dodge his attacks.
Tip:
Try to avoid hitting the braziers during the fight, and keep Azarian away from them.
Here’s a breakdown of Azarian’s specific attacks and how to evade them:
Attack | Description | Notes |
---|---|---|
Flaming Advance | Azarian spins his weapons while charging forward, damaging anyone in his path. | Look for his brief wind-up as a tell and dodge to evade damage. |
Fireball Toss | He thrusts his arm into the ground, launching fireballs that spread out in a cone. | The fireballs shoot from the opposite side, giving you a clue as to their trajectory. |
Flame Shot | Azarian throws a cone of fire by thrusting his arms forward. | Prepare to move sideways as he spreads his arms. |
Flame Slam | He raises his arms and slams them down, unleashing two waves of fire. | Wait to dodge until the last moment to avoid being caught by the angled flames. |
Azarian will utilize these attacks until he is defeated. Flame Slam is particularly damaging and difficult to dodge, but the biggest threat comes from the flames created by the broken braziers. Maintaining the braziers is crucial for a smoother fight.
Additional Tip:
Boost your fire resistance before the fight. Equipment with fire resistance, along with a Ruby Charm, can significantly reduce the fire damage you take.
Depending on your class and build, your experience with this boss will vary. Ranged builds may be safer but could struggle against the pools of fire should a brazier blow up. Conversely, melee builds should be cautious of Azarian’s Flaming Advance, which can deal multiple hits while pushing you into a less advantageous position.
Ultimately, perseverance is essential. As you learn Azarian’s patterns and attack timings, victory will be a matter of time.
