Genshin Impact features a constantly growing world ripe for exploration, but as you venture forth, you’ll face tough challenges that require you to grow stronger. To accomplish this, you must defeat powerful foes to collect their Ascension Materials. One of the significant enemies you will encounter is the Dendro Hypostasis.
This formidable enemy is crucial if you want to level up various Dendro characters, and you’ll need to challenge it multiple times to fully ascend them. Luckily, getting to this boss and taking it down is straightforward if you assemble the right team.
How to Locate Dendro Hypostasis
The Dendro Hypostasis can be found in the Land of Lower Setekh, a desert area in Sumeru. It resides in a small cave adjacent to a lake. If you haven’t reached the Land of Lower Setekh Waypoint, you can climb from the area beneath Aaru Village until you get to that location.
Once you discover the Waypoint, drop down and you’ll notice some Four-Leaf Sigils leading into a cave. Follow these clues to reach the cave entrance. Prepare for battle as your opponent awaits you inside; approaching it will trigger the fight.
How to Defeat Dendro Hypostasis
Like other Hypostases, the Dendro Hypostasis is infused with Dendro energy, which makes it particularly vulnerable to Elemental Reactions involving Pyro and Electro. However, it is immune to Dendro attacks.
The core is the weak point of this creature, and you can only inflict damage by hitting it when it is exposed. After each of its attacks, the core will become vulnerable, so it’s essential to dodge its assaults carefully.
When combat begins, it will randomly choose one of several moves:
Attack |
Effect |
---|---|
Spores |
Launches three spores towards the player, creating a toxic Dendro puddle on the ground. |
Ground Vines |
Releases four consecutive vine attacks. These can be incinerated with Pyro. |
Vine Combo |
Transforms into a vine to unleash a surrounding combo attack. |
Sky Drop |
Becomes a large ball, launching itself into the air and diving towards the player three times. If timed correctly, you can burn it when it falls, disrupting successive drops and revealing the core sooner. |
Vine Zone |
Covers a large area with vines that slowly reach the core, causing a massive explosion upon contact. This can be canceled with Pyro. |
Regeneration |
When the Hypostasis is defeated or nearly out of health, it breaks into three Restorative Piths to attempt revival. These must be purified with Dendro quickly (within about 20 seconds), or the boss will return with half health. If you fail a second time, its health will be reduced further. Destroyed Piths won’t return during a revival attempt. Using Electro on the Piths speeds up the purification process. This phase must be completed to conclude the fight. |
Interestingly, having a Dendro character in your team is crucial. They won’t need to attack until the final phase, where they are responsible for purifying the Piths—one hit with Dendro is sufficient.
The Spores and Ground Vines moves can be easily avoided by moving around the arena, while the remaining attacks require you to dodge away from the Hypostasis itself.
If you’re using shields, take the damage head-on to deal greater damage to the Hypostasis’ core, especially when utilizing a Pyro DPS character, as this can negate many of its moves.
Always prioritize your main DPS to land hits on the core unless you need to refresh buffs or heal. While all characters can inflict damage on the Hypostasis, only Dendro users will ultimately defeat it.
Avoid using Pyro characters during the Regeneration phase, as they will slow down the process.
Ideal Teams for Battling Dendro Hypostasis
For an easier fight against the Dendro Hypostasis, use Electro and Pyro characters. Here are some effective team compositions:
- Arlecchino – Bennett – Nahida – Zhongli
- Hu Tao – Dendro MC – Xingqiu – Zhongli
- Clorinde – Fischl – Nahida – Zhongli
- Raiden Shogun – Xingqiu – Xiangling – Baizhu
- Keqing – Fischl – Nahida – Kazuha
Nahida is the best at purifying the Piths. If you don’t have her, consider Baizhu, Kaveh, or even the Dendro MC as alternatives. You might need to go through a second Regeneration cycle.
Characters like Yoimiya, Yae Miko, Oro, and Cyno can also excel here, so don’t hesitate to include them as they might finish the fight even faster than others.
Any of your regular teams will work here as long as you have at least one Dendro character. If your usual setup lacks one, swap out a character for Nahida or another Dendro option.
Rewards from Dendro Hypostasis
Defeating the Dendro Hypostasis primarily rewards you with the Quelled Creeper, which is necessary for ascending characters like Nahida, Kaveh, and Yaoyao. As with other bosses, claiming your rewards will cost you 40 Original Resin.
The quantity of Creepers you receive depends on your World Level, with a minimum of two at World Level 4 and a lucky maximum of three.
You will need between 16 to 23 kills of this boss for a full character ascension, with the specific number influenced by random chance.
The boss also drops various other items used for ascending Dendro characters, including:
- Nagadus Emerald Sliver
- Nagadus Emerald Fragment
- Nagadus Emerald Chunk
- Nagadus Emerald Gemstone
- Gladiator’s Finale Set Items
- Wanderer’s Troupe Set Items
- Adventurer Set Items
- Instructor Set Items
- Berserker Set Items
