This weekend might seem like an unusual time for a spooky adventure in Monopoly Go, especially with everyone busy preparing for the holidays. However, Scopely has rolled out a chilling new event called Haunted Mansion—a team-based challenge for up to eight players.
Join forces with your teammates to clear out all the frightening entities inhabiting Mr. Monopoly’s wintry abode. From December 12-13, you’ll have the chance to form your team, and once all eight slots are filled, dive right into the action. Make sure you’re ready because you need to finish playing by 3 PM EST on December 17.
Assemble Your Crew and Gather Haunted Mansion Tokens
The Haunted Mansion adventure officially started at noon EST on December 12. Players can form teams with seven others to commence the event. You have 24 hours to gather your teammates. If your team isn’t filled within that time, the game will pair you up with random players to ensure everyone can start their scary adventure quickly.
Your teammates can be picked from your friends list, or you can go with suggestions from Monopoly Go. Remember, everyone in the team can invite players, so teaming up with your most enthusiastic friends will help ensure the workload is shared!
If you find your team isn’t working out before the event kicks off, you’re free to leave. However, once the Haunted Mansion doors swing open and your team is set, you’ll need to stick with them for the duration of the event, so be decisive!
To get started on the tasks of fixing up the run-down Haunted Mansion, you’ll first need to collect Haunted Mansion tokens by participating in other concurrent events in Monopoly Go. Here are ways to gather those tokens:
- Engage in daily leaderboard tournaments, where you’ll compete with 99 others for the highest score by landing on Railroad tiles. There are milestone rewards for each daily leaderboard during the weekend that provide bonus Haunted Mansion tokens.
- Participate in center banner events shown below your cash total. These events feature different tiles you need to land on each time they update, often running for longer periods, and they provide multiple milestones that award free Haunted Mansion tokens.
- Claim your bonus in the in-game store that refreshes every eight hours. Beyond cash prizes and free dice rolls, during token-based events like Haunted Mansion, you’ll also receive free tokens every eight hours.
- Complete your daily quick win goals during the event, which also reward extra Haunted Mansion tokens while the event lasts, in addition to normal prizes.
Once you’ve gathered some tokens and assembled your team, head to the center of your Monopoly Go game board to begin the Haunted Mansion adventure.
How To Play Haunted Mansion
Jumping into the Haunted Mansion event may come off as a bit daunting at first. The adventure kicks off for your team once all members have joined, so it’s wise to check in frequently to monitor your progress. Your mission is to collaborate to achieve objectives all weekend while restoring Mr. Monopoly’s mansion, and you’ll accomplish this via a card game using the tokens you’ve gathered.
Each area in the Haunted Mansion presents an overarching goal, and when complete, you’ll receive rewards and enable your team to progress to the next area. Make sure to cover as much ground as possible before the event wraps up at noon EST on December 17. You and your team will be tasked with different challenges in each area to finish the cleaning and repairs efficiently.
When you’re ready to dive into the Haunted Mansion parts, simply click on the game board, and you’ll observe your teammates divided among various obstacles, each tackling different tasks simultaneously. The objective is to fill the progress bar at the top of the screen every time you interact with a repairable piece of the mansion.
How To Clear Obstacles and Earn Rewards
When you highlight an obstacle, three numbers appear at the bottom of the screen alongside two playing cards, showing how many Haunted Mansion tokens you’ll need for that hand challenge. Also displayed are bluish dots below each number, indicating how much of the progress bar will fill once you complete the challenge.
When tackling these card challenges, you’ll draw two cards numbered between one and nine. The goal is to get a sum that exceeds the number displayed on the challenge card. For instance, if the challenge card reads 12, you’ll need to draw cards totaling 13 or higher to succeed.
You’ll be pulling from an unseen deck of cards which contains 36 numbered cards. As you play, used numbers will be discarded, so keep track of which cards have been played until you need to reshuffle. If you’re on a winning streak, it might be a good idea to aim for lower-value cards until higher numbers reappear.
If you’ve played Blackjack, you’ll find the game similar. Treat the numbers shown on Haunted Mansion obstacles like those dealt by the house; your two cards must beat those values. Card counting can be beneficial here, as keeping track of the number of cards remaining could tilt the odds in your favor!
Successfully completing a challenge will slightly fill the progress bar at the top of each obstacle. The progress bar is segmented; the number of bluish dots displayed will show you how many segments will fill when you finish that challenge.
Each area has several obstacles, each requiring its own hand of cards. Each player uses their own tokens but works as a team to progress. Check in anytime you have a few tokens ready! You’ll also encounter optional treasure chests along the way. Keep in mind that only one player can claim each chest, so choose wisely!
Teaming up works best when players divvy up to tackle different obstacles. If a group is already clustered around one challenge, consider focusing on another instead. For instance, during the initial challenge of repairing the bridge, splitting up to work on separate sections will speed up repairs significantly.
Completing each task rewards your team with the same prize, regardless of individual contributions. Afterward, you’ll transition to the next room, starting the process over with new challenges. This continues throughout the weekend, so aim to hit as many milestones in the Haunted Mansion as possible before the event concludes!
Make the Most of Special Cards
You don’t manually draw cards during the Haunted Mansion card mini-game but may occasionally pull one of four specialty cards from the deck.
- The On Fire card signals that you’re on a winning streak; the card deck in the lower-right corner appears on fire during this time. While this is active, you’ll draw a third card for every hand until you lose. For instance, if you win three times in a row, you keep the extra card for those hands, but after losing on the fourth, you revert to drawing two cards.
- The Ice Cold card adds a flat plus four to your hand’s total, which is incredibly helpful for high-value challenges! Like the On Fire card, it remains active until your next loss.
- The Team Boost card enhances your draws based on how many teammates are focused on that obstacle. If several teammates are working on the same issue, the Team Boost card can multiply your drawn card values by the number of players engaged. For instance, if three others are helping, your two cards amplifying their values will be compared against the challenge total.
- The Shuffle Card is rarer but allows you to reshuffle your deck of cards. All 36 numbered cards return to the deck, giving you a fresh start and the chance to change the course of any losing streaks!
These special cards are only operational for a limited time, so make sure to leverage them to maximize your scoring potential at each Haunted Mansion obstacle!
