In the world of the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, one of the most efficient ways to gain experience points is by hunting down Metal Slimes. This strategy becomes particularly important after characters have changed their Vocations, resetting their levels to one. Additionally, it’s essential for quickly leveling up new party members when you recruit them at Patty’s Party Planning Place.
Metal Slimes are known for their exceptional Agility, allowing them to act first in battles. They resist most spells and abilities, with the exception of standard physical damage. However, they have a tendency to flee, which can be quite frustrating for players who don’t have a reliable way to catch them.
Various Spawn Locations
Metal Slimes can be found in several locations throughout Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, though they become more common as players approach the endgame. The first encounter with Metal Slimes occurs in the Tower of Transcendence, but it’s not the best spot for farming, as Liquid Metal Slimes do not appear there. Since Liquid Metal Slimes provide over ten times the experience of regular Metal Slimes, players should prioritize locating these more lucrative targets.
The best early spot for finding Liquid Metal Slimes is outside the Teleportal Shrine, where they only appear at night and have a low spawn rate, making it a suboptimal farming location.
Liquid Metal Slimes are also found in the Maw of the Necrogond and Baramos’ Lair dungeons, but they show up alongside tougher foes that require your focus. Because Metal Slimes have a high escape rate, this can complicate efforts to defeat them quickly. To enhance your Liquid Metal Slime farming efficiency, make use of the Everbird to reach Slime Hill, where a variety of Slime enemies spawn.
Fly With The Everbird To Slime Hills
The prime location for finding Liquid Metal Slimes is near the Tower of Transcendence. Take off with the Everbird and fly northwest, flying over the mountains into a lush forest region. Slime Hill is located just north of these mountains and is only accessible via the Everbird. Once you land, run around the hill and wait for battle encounters with Liquid Metal Slimes.
Tip: I suggest fleeing from any battles that don’t involve Metal Slime or Liquid Metal Slime enemies to save time and resources.
Another Slime Hill is positioned on the western side of Aliahan, which can also only be reached by the Everbird. Start outside the Dreamer’s Tower and fly northwest towards the rocky area. This plateau contains a secret area that holds a Mini Medal, a pair of Elevating Shoes, and an Elysium Bird Monster to capture.
Critical Hits & OHKO Moves
Given the high Agility of Liquid Metal Slimes and Metal Slimes, which allows them to escape rapidly, defeating them effectively relies on speed and accuracy. Certain Vocations have access to one-hit KO moves or can guarantee Critical Hits, which will instantly eliminate these slippery foes. Weapons with unique effects, like the Demon Spear, have the ability to take out enemies in a single blow. The Puff! spell, available to Mages and Sages, requires a turn to take effect but will instantly defeat any Metal Slime that hasn’t fled by the following turn.
To optimize your chances, consider employing the Accelerate Spell to boost your party’s Agility, increasing the likelihood of outpacing Metal Slimes on the second turn. I’ve had success using the Meteorite Bracer to enable my Sage to accelerate the team immediately, often allowing my Martial Artist enough Agility to execute a Critical Claim before any Metal Slimes escape. Additionally, switching my Martial Artist’s Vocation to Monster Wrangler lets them boost their abilities with Wild Side to use Critical Claims multiple times in a single turn.

Some party setups may struggle more than others when it comes to hunting Metal Slimes, but most players will have the necessary Vocations to grind effectively. Farming Metal Slimes is an excellent way to counteract the drawbacks of changing a character’s Vocation, as you can quickly restore them to their previous levels. Therefore, don’t hesitate to alter Vocations, as Metal Slimes can always be found in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
