Unlocking the Secret Egg on Luma Island: A How-To Guide

In the earlier days of Luma Island, magical beings called Lumas thrived, using their powers to assist the island’s inhabitants. However, in today’s world, these enchanting creatures have mysteriously vanished, leaving everyone puzzled about their fate and whereabouts.

Adding to the intrigue, ancient ruins scattered across the island provide little insight into where the Lumas have gone. Yet, there may be a path to summon them back and gain their support—exploring these ruins holds the key to unlocking their secrets.

Luma Island is currently in Early Access on Steam, so keep in mind that details may evolve as the game develops.

How to Obtain a Luma Egg

Before you can acquire your first Luma, you’ll need to venture through the Ancient Farm Temple, located at the upper center of your farm, just to the right of the town entrance.

Tip: Complete the tutorial missions thoroughly to earn the Copper Whip, which is essential for navigating several rooms within the temple.

The temple comprises twelve rooms that you must tackle consecutively. Each room presents challenges including dodging traps, navigating around hazards, or defeating enemies to access the next area.

  • If minor enemies like Bats hit you, you’ll lose some items, but you can quickly pick them up again.
  • Traps, such as fire-breathing statues, will send you back to the room’s entrance, causing you to drop a few items, but you can retrieve them and continue.

Each room features a ladder for a quick exit, but leaving mid-challenge results in losing all items collected during that session, forcing you to start over from the beginning of the dungeon.

Pro Tip: Be sure to smash all barrels and vases within each room, as they contain valuable loot like Tool Tokens, Resin, Lost Spirits, and Sand.

Solutions for the Ancient Temple Rooms

Room Solution
Room 1 Use the Copper Whip to activate the switch across the gap. Also, a locked door on the left requires the Archaeologist Profession for access.
Room 2 Use the Copper Whip to defeat the bat.
Room 3 Steer clear of the flame traps on the walls.
Room 4 Flip the switch at the entrance, then go through the door once the wall lowers.
Room 5 Avoid the initial traps, then use the Copper Whip to clear a spider web. Dodge another set of traps by the door. Breaking webs yields useful Spider Silk.
Room 6 Use the Copper Whip to take down both bats.
Room 7 Exit through the door on the right to reach the eighth room; a door that opens requires three Wheat, three Grapes, and ten Earth Spirits.
Room 8 Rotate the fire-breathing statue around to the north, then to the east.
Room 9 Evade the two sets of wall traps.
Room 10 Use the Copper Whip to clear the spider web and navigate the wall traps.
Room 11 Wait for flame traps to fire, swiftly move down either side, rotate the statue, and repeat for the other side to exit.
Room 7 (Part 2) Retrieve the Ancient Book from a once-inaccessible area and descend the stairs to the next door.
Room 12 Collect the Ancient Homestead Key from the ground and unlock the chest at the end.

Inside the final chest, you’ll find assorted loot along with a Mysterious Egg, crucial for hatching a Luma.

Types of Lumas You Can Obtain

The egg you discover will hatch into a specific Luma, but which one it will be is randomized. If you’re not satisfied with the first Luma, you can restart the game to try for a different one.

Luma Egg Description
Luma Fish Features orange and yellow stripes on top, a blue and white pattern below, with two large white dots.
Luma Turtle Displays a green upper half with light green spots and a brown lower half dotted with blue.
Luma Owl Alternates between pink and white stripes with gold and dark pink markings along the center.
Luma Beetle Has an orange top with dark gray ovals and a bright red lower half featuring a dark red shape.
Luma Deer Rabbit Pink with gold markings on the top, large white spots below, and green gem-like spots around the top.

How to Hatch a Luma

Once you’ve secured your Mysterious Egg, the next step is obtaining the Luma Incubator. You can buy its blueprint from Balthazar’s shop for 500 Gold.

Note: It’s not necessary to complete profession introduction quests before entering the Ancient Farm Temple, but having enough Gold for the blueprint is beneficial.

Materials Needed for Luma Incubator:

  • 5 Farm Leather
  • 3 Copper Bars
  • 5 Fabric
  • 5 Glass

Materials can be crafted or sourced from various locations, like using Farm Mushrooms at a Simple Workbench or Copper Ore and Charcoal in an Ore Smelter.

At the Luma Incubator, you’ll be presented with six recipes to choose from, allowing you to create different types of Luma Life or a Mysterious Creature by combining a Luma Life item with the Mysterious Egg.

To hatch your Luma, combine your chosen Luma Life and the Mysterious Egg in the incubator and wait about 30 seconds in real-time.

Reminder: You can purchase Luma Nest blueprints later when you have multiple Lumas, but they aren’t required immediately.

What Do Lumas Do?

When you hatch a Luma, it will automatically fill the Helper slot in your menu. If you have the Treasure Hunter profession and a dog, it will occupy one of your inventory slots instead.

Lumas are a valuable source of Luma Energy, a resource for mid to late-game upgrades and crafting recipes. Each Luma can provide two Luma Energy daily: one from petting them and another from feeding them Luma Food.

Once you’ve got your Luma, they can assist in locating hidden treasure chests by indicating where to dig with their presence and behavior.
