There’s a hidden doorway to the Library Balcony in Dragon Age: The Veilguard that Rook can reveal by solving a statue puzzle near the Lighthouse. Like other games in the series, Veilguard offers plenty of secrets and challenges for players right from the start, particularly when Rook arrives at the Lighthouse before the second main story quest. By one of the rounded walls in the library, players will find a note that provides a hint for accessing this secret entrance.
The note states that "three pairs must meet face-to-face under the sky." This indicates six statues located in the Lighthouse Courtyard that need to be turned to face each other. To gain entry to the hidden passage, Rook will have to find these statues and adjust their positions. However, players must wait until Chapter 8, Shades of the Blight, to fully unlock the balcony.
Where to Locate the First Pair of Statues
Start Behind Bellara’s and Neve’s Rooms
The first pair of statues is easy to spot: they are directly across from each other behind Bellara’s and Neve’s rooms. Since neither room has a back entrance, Rook should avoid going inside to prevent triggering a cutscene. Instead, Rook should navigate around the outside, being careful not to fall. Neve’s room poses a challenge, as there’s no safe path around her door. However, Rook can drop down from the stairs leading to Neve’s door and go through the passage beneath to reach the statue.
Turn both statues to face each other. To do this, approach the lever next to each statue and press the Interact button when prompted. Each statue will then turn 90 degrees with each interaction.
Where to Locate the Second Pair of Statues
Head to the Balcony and Outside Lucanis’ Room
The second pair of statues is positioned further apart. One statue is next to the building that contains the Kitchen and Lucanis’ room. To find it, face Lucanis’ door and take the stairs on the right side; at the top, you’ll see the statue. Adjust it so that it faces the Library’s front door.
Next, walk toward the Caretaker’s Workshop, passing the entrance on your left, and climb up the stairs on the left. At the top, you’ll find the other statue. Turn this one so it faces the Kitchen and Lucanis’ room.
Where to Locate the Third Pair of Statues
Continue to the Center of the Balcony
After turning the second pair of statues, proceed along the balcony path on the right. Under a sheltered area, you will find the last two statues located right next to each other. Turn them inward so they face one another. This should trigger a mechanical sound that indicates the puzzle has been solved. After this, head back into the main entrance of the Lighthouse and return to the Library, where the circular door to the passage on the right will open, allowing Rook to enter.
How to Unlock the Passage in the Music Room
Recruit Emmerich to Solve the Puzzle
The passage revealed by moving the statues leads to the Music Room. In here, players can find some treasure in chests. There’s also a locked door featuring two incense bowls on either side. Players will need to wait until Rook reaches Chapter 8, Shades of the Blight, and recruits Emmerich Volkarin to proceed. This last part of the puzzle involves using the Wisp mechanic from Emmerich’s recruitment quest.
In the music room, Rook can find a Wisp that will help unlock the pathway. To collect the Wisp, simply have Rook walk through it, and it will start following. Then, guide it toward one of the two bowls, and it will fit into place.
The second Wisp is a bit more challenging to catch as it’s located far from the Music Room. Players can find this Wisp back on the balcony, positioned between the third pair of statues mentioned earlier. Rook must act quickly after collecting it, as the Wisp will return to its original spot if Rook takes too long.
Players should then have Rook return the second Wisp to the Music Room and place it into the second bowl to unlock the passageway and create a portal. Rook will then be able to step through the portal and arrive at the Library Balcony.
Rewards for Unlocking the Library Passage
Loot, a Discount, and an Achievement
Once Rook reaches the Library Balcony in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, players can find useful loot scattered around. In the left corner of the balcony, a blue artifact, reminiscent of those from Solas’ quest in Dragon Age: Inquisition, will be waiting. Interacting with it will activate the floating shelves in the library, allowing the Astrolabe in the center of the ceiling to function properly again.
The Caretaker will then appear and thank Rook for the help, offering a discount on all future upgrades at the Workshop. Additionally, if players choose to have Rook jump off the balcony instead of going back the way they came, they will unlock an achievement called Nostalgia Trip in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which references Inquisitors surviving fall damage from jumping off the tower at Skyhold rather than using the stairs.
