How to Catch Ditto in Pokémon GO
Ditto is one of the trickiest Pokémon to locate and catch in Pokémon GO, which makes knowing its current disguises essential for players looking to add it to their Pokédex. Unlike most Pokémon that show up on your map as themselves, Ditto takes on the appearance of a variety of other Pokémon. The Pokémon that Ditto can mimic change periodically, usually every few months, although not as frequently as the teams of Team GO Rocket Leaders.
While Ditto may not be the most powerful combatant, it is definitely one of the more challenging Generation One Pokémon to collect, making the effort to find it worthwhile. When you encounter a disguised Pokémon, you won’t know it’s Ditto until you catch it. After successfully capturing it, you’ll see a pop-up message that says, "Oh," right before it transforms back into its true form. Due to this unique catching mechanism, Ditto’s catch rate is notably lower compared to other Pokémon.
Current Ditto Disguises (November 2024)
As of November 2024, Ditto can still disguise itself as Oddish, Koffing, Goldeen, and Rhyhorn—the same Pokémon it mimicked back in October 2024. Note that while some of these Pokémon may not appear regularly, Koffing and Oddish tend to spawn more frequently, so keep an eye out for them!
Additionally, there are seven other Pokémon from various generations that can also be mistaken for Ditto: Stufful, Spinarak, Bergmite, Gothita, Solosis, Numel, and Bidoof. Currently, Ditto cannot be caught through the new Max Battles format, although Niantic has been adding more Pokémon to this feature each month.
While attempting to catch Zorua resembles this process, Zorua will appear in the shape of your buddy Pokémon, whereas Ditto will take on one of its disguises.
Tips for Finding Ditto
Since detecting Ditto can be particularly challenging, it’s advisable to capture any of the eleven known Pokémon it can disguise itself as whenever you encounter them. Doing so not only increases your chances of catching Ditto, but it also provides an opportunity to find the even rarer Shiny Ditto. This special form, which has a light blue hue, appears approximately once in every 64 encounters.
As of now, no special in-game events are boosting Ditto’s spawn rate, but there have been instances in the past when such events occurred, leading to increased sightings of Ditto.
To enhance your chances of finding Ditto, utilize Incense and Daily Incense. Both of these tools will boost the spawn rates of Pokémon around you for a limited time. Additionally, placing a Lure at a PokéStop has a similar effect, increasing Pokémon spawns for both you and other local players.
It’s worth noting that while Lures and Incense do not increase the likelihood of an individual Pokémon being a disguised Ditto, they do raise the total number of Pokémon appearing near you, increasing your odds overall.
Final Thoughts
Currently, there’s no additional way to enhance your chances of catching Ditto this November. However, by staying aware of its potential disguises, you give yourself the best shot at adding this elusive Pokémon to your collection in Pokémon GO. So, keep an eye out for those specific Pokémon, and happy hunting!
