As the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro approaches on November 7, many gamers are wondering about its value for the $700 price tag. How will it impact game performance and visual quality? Will the faceplates from the PS5 Slim fit on the new model? While we await thorough reviews to clarify these points, one thing is already confirmed: the PS5 Slim covers are not compatible with the PS5 Pro.
A PlayStation representative stated, “PS5 console covers are not compatible with PS5 Pro. However, players will have the option to swap out different covers specifically designed for PS5 Pro in the future,” as reported by IGN.
Speculation about the compatibility of the PS5 Slim covers began circulating on Reddit after a user noticed that their cobalt blue plates did not work with the PS5 Pro. Although the two consoles share similar dimensions, this user pointed out that the bottom plate fits, while the top plate does not align. They noted, “The connecting points are slightly misplaced, preventing the top part from attaching.”

Initially, it was uncertain whether the interchangeable covers of the PS5 Slim would also fit the PS5 Pro. In a prior announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Hideaki Nishino, co-CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, mentioned that players could add a disc drive or change console covers when they become available. This statement hinted that new, specifically designed covers for the PS5 Pro would be released, but it did not confirm whether these would be the only available options.
With a price tag of $700, the PS5 Pro does not include a disc drive, which can be purchased separately for an additional $80 via PlayStation Direct. Currently, the faceplates for the PS5 Slim are priced at $60 for standard colors and $65 for the chromatic variants. Details regarding the pricing for the PS5 Pro covers have yet to be revealed, but they are likely to be on the higher end.
