The trailer for Showtime’s upcoming espionage thriller The Agency reveals the harsh realities of a spy’s double life.
In the film, Martian (played by Michael Fassbender), a covert CIA operative, is instructed to abandon his undercover activities and return to London Station for a critical mission: he must identify and rescue a fellow agent who has been captured. Complicating matters, Martian crosses paths with his former lover, portrayed by Jodie Turner-Smith, reigniting their romance. As the official synopsis states, “His career, true identity, and mission collide with his emotions,” thrusting both into a perilous realm of international intrigue and espionage.
“I believe there’s one type of agent, the insane,” Martian confides to a physician during the narrative.
The cast of The Agency includes notable actors such as Jeffrey Wright, Katherine Waterston, John Magaro, Alex Reznik, Andrew Brooke, Harriet Sansom Harris, India Fowler, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, Reza Brojerdi, and Richard Gere, with recurring appearances by Adam Nagaitis, Ambreen Razia, Bilal Hasna, David Harewood, Kurt Egyiawan, Ray BLK, Sabrina Wu, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor. Hugh Bonneville will also make a guest appearance.
The Agency draws inspiration from the French series Le Bureau des Légendes created by Eric Rochant. The show’s writing team consists of Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, while Joe Wright directs the first two episodes. They serve as executive producers along with Michael Fassbender, George Clooney, Grant Heslov, Keith Cox, Nina L. Diaz, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Alex Berger, Ashley Stern, and Pascal Breton.
Mark your calendars: The Agency debuts on Friday, November 29, featuring two episodes on Paramount+ with Showtime, and it will be available on Showtime beginning Sunday, December 1.
