A new threat emerges in the trailer for season 2 of Based on a True Story.
Season 1 concluded with Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan Bartlett (Chris Messina) in a precarious situation, cleaning up after a murder, while Tory (Liana Liberato) was entangled in a risky relationship with Matt (Tom Bateman), the notorious serial killer known as the Westside Ripper. They made a pact with Matt: they would keep his past a secret if he agreed to cease his killing spree and to share his story on their true crime podcast.
In season 2, Tory and Matt are now engaged, much to Ava’s discontent. Matt seems to have turned over a new leaf, attempting to leave his violent history behind. However, a sense of normalcy is shattered when the Westside Ripper resurfaces, claiming new victims. Matt insists he isn’t responsible for these new murders.
As for Ava, she is trying to move past her fixation with true crime while raising her child with Nathan. However, the allure of investigation draws her back in, placing her directly in harm’s way.
This season introduces Melissa Fumero as Drew, Ava’s new friend.
Created and executive produced by Craig Rosenberg, Based on a True Story debuted in June 2023. Annie Weisman will step in as showrunner for season 2, taking over from Rosenberg. He expressed that the show’s unique blend of dark humor, thrilling action, and relatable characters captured his interest.
“In season 2, we’ve expanded on those captivating themes while introducing fresh character dynamics and an engaging murder mystery,” Rosenberg stated in a press release.
All eight episodes of season 2 will be available for streaming on Peacock starting November 21, 2024.
