Google TV Now Controls Smart Home Devices

At the end of September, Google unveiled a new feature for Google TV called the Home Panel, designed to simplify the management of compatible smart home devices from one interface. Initially launched on the Google TV Streamer, it later made its way to Chromecast and has now been extended to Google TVs from various manufacturers, including Hisense and TCL.

The Home Panel is a highly practical tool. It displays the brightness settings of your lights, the volume levels of your speakers, and even provides live feeds from security cameras. According to a video showcased by Google, users can also modify their thermostat settings. This can all be done using the remote control, ensuring you can stay comfortably seated on the couch.

While the Google Home app offers more extensive features, the Home Panel enhances convenience and feels more intuitive compared to using a smartphone app.

Want to give it a try on your television? If you can’t access the Home Panel yet, you can find it in the Quick Settings menu. Simply long-press the Home Button. Be sure your Google TV software is updated to the latest version. If it still doesn’t appear, just hang tight; the rollout may still be in progress.

Along with simplifying the management of smart home devices, this update also introduces options to change your screensaver, generate AI backgrounds, and follow your favorite sports teams. Eventually, this feature is expected to be available on all Google TV and Chromecast devices.
