Paramount's Running Man Remake Starring Glen Powell Release Date

Glen Powell is set to race into cinemas next Thanksgiving. Paramount Pictures has unveiled a series of release dates for its future films, highlighted by Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man, featuring Powell in a leading role.

The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 21, 2025. However, it will face significant competition at the box office, as it launches alongside Wicked: Part Two and another major project from Warner Bros.

The Running Man, adapted from Stephen King’s 1982 dystopian novel, is set in the year 2025 and centers around Ben Richards, a man desperate for cash who agrees to participate in The Running Man, a lethal game show that glorifies violence and murder. Glen Powell takes on the role of Richards in this version.

The story was previously brought to life in a 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although the original received mixed reviews, it has since garnered a devoted following. Wright’s adaptation is rumored to be more faithful to King’s original narrative than the Schwarzenegger film.

Beyond The Running Man, Paramount has also updated release dates for several other projects. The reboot of The Naked Gun has moved from July 18, 2025, to August 1, 2025. The film features Liam Neeson as Detective Frank Drebin, a role made iconic by Leslie Nielsen in earlier installments. Akiva Schaffer will direct, and Seth MacFarlane along with Erica Huggins will produce.

An untitled animated musical centered on the Smurfs, directed by Chris Miller, has been delayed from February 14, 2025, to July 18, 2025. The voice cast boasts high-profile names like Rihanna, James Corden, Nick Offerman, and Dakota Fanning among others.

Additionally, the horror film Vicious, directed by Bryan Bertino and starring Dakota Fanning, has been moved up from August 8, 2025, to February 28, 2025.

Paramount has made one significant adjustment to its 2024 lineup. The film September 5, a compelling drama about ABC Sports’ coverage of the 1972 Munich Olympic hostage situation, will now have a limited release on November 29, 2024, before expanding on December 13, 2024. The studio is hoping to position September 5 for potential awards recognition.
