The transparent display’s transparency varies based on pixel settings; when set to black and turned off, it achieves 55% transparency. As pixels light up, transparency decreases until the display appears completely opaque, reaching a peak brightness of 1000 nits.

Beyond its visual appeal, Lenovo sees practical applications for this transparent technology. Digital artists, for instance, could benefit from seeing the world behind the laptop while sketching on the lower half, akin to an augmented reality experience. The laptop utilizes AI object recognition to identify items behind it, potentially overlaying digital information or imagery.

While the ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop is currently a concept and not commercially available, Lenovo expresses confidence that the showcased technologies will be integrated into a real laptop within the next five years. The company envisions transparent displays and AI integration enhancing collaboration and adding a new dimension to user experiences.

It’s worth noting that the prototype has limitations, including a 720p resolution and the absence of tactile feedback from the touch keyboard. Lenovo is exploring solutions, such as AI learning user typing habits, to address these challenges and improve accuracy. Despite these limitations, the concept has garnered attention for its innovative approach to laptop design and potential future applications.
