Are you prepared for the upcoming version of Windows? It’s critical to understand the system requirements before Windows 12 launches in 2024 to ensure your computer can run the new software. I know what you’ll need to run Windows 12 smoothly because I’m a tech nerd.

Windows 12 System Requirements

The system prerequisites for Windows 12 are broken down as follows:

  • Processor: 1 GHz or faster with 2 or more cores and appearing on the list of approved CPUs
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: 128 GB or larger storage device
  • System Firmware: UEFI and Secure Boot capable
  • TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
  • Graphics Card: Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver
  • Display: High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel
  • Internet Connectivity and Microsoft Accounts: Windows 12 Home edition requires internet connectivity and a Microsoft Account to complete device setup on first use
  • Windows Version for Upgrade: To upgrade through Windows Update, your device must be running Windows 10, version 2004 or later.

It’s essential to keep in mind that these specifications could change given that Windows 12 is still under development. As the release date approaches, keep an eye out for updates.

Can You Run It?

A TPM chip is used to perform security tasks in hardware, such as encryption, key management, and platform integrity checks. It’s a safe place to keep your cryptographic keys, certificates, and other sensitive data, and it can even help prevent attacks that try to tamper with your system’s firmware or boot process.

For Windows 12 to function, a TPM 2.0 chip must be installed, which is not the case with many older computers and laptops. This means that even if a device meets all the other requirements for running Windows 12, it may not be compatible with Windows 12. If you want to upgrade to Windows 12, you’ll need a device with a TPM 2.0 chip, or you’ll have to buy a new one that does.

Users should be aware that Windows 12 requires TPM 2.0, which may prevent installing the operating system on older laptops and computers. Users who want to upgrade to Windows 12 on their devices must either check that their current hardware contains a TPM 2.0 chip or consider upgrading to a new device that does.
